A word to the wise to those about to buy Halloween candy (or just general purpose non-holiday candy): Cadbury is doing a recall of some or all of their candy right now, in light of the Chinese tainted milk scare, as Cadbury chocolates are made in China.... Who knew? Does the U.S. make anything any more?

Bear in mind something comedian Bill Maher said over the weekend: "Food from China, unless it is Chinese Food, isn't food." :-)

Hey, check out this amazing video. I haven't been able to find out much about this kid, but apparently he's an amateur who -- in just one day! -- wrote and performed this musical response to the debate. I hope the Obama team buys this and runs it on TV. Or at least gives this kid lots of money. I love the YouTube Generation. Enjoy!

Later: His name is Michael Gregory. I went to his YouTube page, where he has several other videos -- including his audition for American Idol. (Check out Space People from the Future!)

So, the first debate is over. To me, it was kind of neutral -- McCain didn't fizz and explode as I halfway expected, and Obama didn't deliver some knockout blow as I sort of hoped for. But when your lead in the polls is in the double digits, as Obama's is now, neutral is good. The real question is not how it affected the people who have already made up their minds (like me), but how it affected the undecideds. And there, the news is all good. The CBS poll of undecideds showed that 40% of them thought Obama won, and only 22% thought McCain won (the rest calling it a tie). Even the in-studio focus group on Fox News called it an Obama win, as did two of the Fox commentators. Wow.

The thing that seems to be getting the most play after the fact is something that I didn't really notice -- McCain never once looked at Obama, which is being interpreted as condescension or contempt on McCain's part. Often, it is something like that that turns out to be more important than anything that was actually said. When people talk about the Bush-Gore debate, nobody remembers what either one said but everyone remembers Gore sighing. Strange but true.

So, Round One was not a knockout but Obama won on points. Round two in ten days, and Round Three in eighteen days. Oh, and only five days to the Biden-Palin match which ought to be very interesting!

Thanks for the congratulations Hatgidakis' and Grandma! I have been busy with everything, but I am really liking the dance team. We are getting ready for our first performances on October 18 and 19 for the homecoming football game and pep rallies.
It has been kind of quiet on here lately, except for Gary's info :)
I did check out that quotes generator for awhile this morning, it was kind of fun to see the two sides compared.
What has everybody been up to lately?

Remember that poor Miss America(?) contestant a while back, who had a complete brain freeze when asked a question and babbled about "the U.S. Americans and the Iraq" and whatnot? Well, I present to you the former runner-up to Miss Alaska, Sarah Palin!

Katie Couric: Why isn't it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families who are struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? Allow them to spend more, and put more money into the economy, instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

Sarah Palin: That's why I say I, like every American I'm speaking with, were ill about this position that we have been put in. Where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh, it's got to be about job creation, too. Shoring up our economy, and getting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade -- we have got to see trade as opportunity, not as, uh, competitive, um, scary thing, but one in five jobs created in the trade sector today. We've got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation.

The only Republican buzz-word she left out of that mess was "It's all Bill Clinton's fault." :-) Can't wait for the debate... if it happens.

Well, my prediction below has pretty much come true, with a few interesting wrinkles. The Washington Republicans actually agreed to the bail-out deal before McCain even arrived in Washington. The Dem and Repub leaders went on TV and were congratulating each other, etc. Then McCain breezes in, and suddenly the Repubs are saying, "Wait, the deal isn't done yet! There's more work to do on it!" Clearly, McCain arrived too late to be hailed as the Savior, so he told the Repubs to do it over again -- only this time, wait til I'm ready! After this, Harry Reid (Democratic Senator from Nevada) said, "If we lose progress on this it's because of one person, that's John McCain -- he's standing in the way." What a disgusting performance. McCain is absolutely playing politics with this.

One Republican shill I heard over the noon hour was spinning it this way: McCain is such a decisive leader that he just had to say he was coming to Washington, and the lawmakers got themselves together before he arrived. "That's leadership!" he said, looking almost as if he believed it himself.

The bright side is, for once the media seems able to see through this, and they are almost all calling McCain on it -- even, believe it or not, some Fox reporters.

Also, nobody has mentioned this (that I've seen), but I think McCain may have suffered a small stroke in the past 48 hours. Watch this two-minute video, and compare McCain's face from "Moments Ago" (i.e., yesterday) with the earlier clips -- even with the day before, September 23). The left side of his face has kind of fallen and is less expressive. Am I wrong on that?

But not only is McCain withholding his own medical records, the campaign declared yesterday they would not release Palin's(!) either.

Gary

May I make a prediction? A few days ago, you've got the Chairman of the Federal Reserve (Republican) and the Secretary of the Treasury (Republican) appearing before Congress saying civilization will end unless Congress ponies up $700 billion by Monday. Then you have a day of Republican senators (Republicans) looking into the camera, wringing their hands and saying "we don't know what to do!" Then you have a trained chimp posing as the President (Republican) making a panicky speech on TV threatening disaster unless something is done. And then you have the Republican candidate for President (Republican) saying he will skip the debate (awww!) and go to Washington and fix things all by himself. My prediction? The Republican congressmen fall into line and hail McCain as a hero.

The Democrats, spineless wimps that they are, have already said, "What's the big deal? We've already said we'll agree to the bail-out." (Even though the mail and email from their constituents is running, one of them said, 150-to-1 against). So it's the Republicans causing the delay. It's all the phoniest gimmick since David Copperfield made the Statue of Liberty disappear.

Sarah Palin had another "In what respect, Charlie?" moment last night on her CBS News interview:

"I'll try to find some and I'll bring 'em to ya!" Palin managed to make Katie Couric look like Edward R. Murrow.... And if you missed McCain's non-appearance on Dave Letterman last night, here are 9 minutes of the highlights:

McCain wants to cancel Friday's debate so he can concentrate on saving America. Hmmmmm.....

But Obama and the University of Mississippi (which is hosting the debate) both say it is still on. Gobama! :-)

"The lengths the McCain campaign is going to in order to shield Sarah Palin from questioning are reaching truly comic dimensions," says this article on TPM Election Central. Good lord. Before her debate with Biden, please, somebody, check her giant hairdo for a radio receiver like the one Bush wore during the debates....

Interesting picture here -- a scan from some Popular Mechanics-type magazine from the 1970s, predicting the future of home electronics thirty-some years down the road (i.e., today). They actually got most of it right: All the gadgets they predict will be in the "home of the future" are pretty much with us today, like big-screen flat-screen TVs, electronic video cameras ("no film, just a spool of tape"), video recorders, domestic robots (well, not so much...), and electronic mail. They were kinda wrong on email, which they pictured more like a fax machine. And they were way wrong on the space-age jumpsuits for around-the-house wear. :-) Interesting that they didn't see computers becoming a source of entertainment themselves -- in this future, the computer is still just a flat black screen with text on it, doing "work." No cell phones -- their telephone is still something that sits on the desk (though it does have video). And the biggest change to our way of life -- the internet -- they didn't see at all. Nobody saw the internet coming. (Though they do predict people will be reading newspapers and getting "weather, puzzles and quizzes" on their TVs.) Anyway, here's the scan if you're interested.

Nelsons, it sounds like you had a Great Weekend day trip! Full of adventure and unexpected events, just what everyone is looking for. Bonus for Erika to find some foreign bugs! Did they all make it to class today? Planted a pot of pansies this morning and bought a mum yesterday so I feel ready for this 1st day of Fall. Had a shower this morning but now it is warming up fast. Been staining the deck in short times of the day, maybe it will get done next Spring!

Do you ever have a day when you wonder why you even get out of bed (Gary -- maybe your last birthday)? I had one today! Yesterday Erika mentioned that her field biology class was collecting bugs. She checked the yard, but didn't find too many. So we went to our really nice Thinker Toy Store and got her a cool butterfly net to help. We also decided we should pack a picnic lunch and head to Ponca State Park and look for bugs. Emily said she could join us "as long as we were home by 5" (Not unnecessary -- that was a quote) since she had to be at work at 6. So we headed out the door about 10:30, all in good moods and happy. About 30 minutes later, Brent cursed under his breath and slowed down, I didn't know why until I also noticed the flashing lights behind us. He pulled over, the officer asked for dr license and registration. Brent handed him both (and a bonus of proof of insurance). The officer responded with a monotone that "the insurance and registration had both expired two years ago." We both scrambled to check in our billfolds and the glove compartent to find current ones. We found three more registrations, but unfortunately they were all expired too, the ONE plus was I did find a current insurance card. So the officer went back to his car, he was there a LONG time. Finally came back, said the registration was OK, but we needed to have proof when the ticket was paid. So he had Brent sign the speeding ticket, then he wanted to be our friend and asked where we were headed. We said to Ponca, he responded "Oh, I was there all day yesterday -- there is a lot going on there." That's when it hit me, it was the ONE week where there is actually something going on in that town. We were feeling a bit defeated, but tried to be optimistic and headed on anyway. We were soon there, a line was waiting to get into the park and people parking everywhere. Brent said they would have scared the bugs away and we should try somewhere else. We made a quick driver change (Brent no longer wished to drive) and headed to Yankton. I headed off on the road, but Brent was sure there was a shortcut through these small towns. We saw lots and lots and lots of cornfields, I think the shortcut added about 40 miles to the trip, but we did come out right to Gavins Point Dam. By this time we had been driving for close to three hours (we originally planned to be about 45 minutes), we were all tired, hungry and crabby! Found a nice picnic area and ate lunch. We were feeling better and Erika hunted a few bugs. The highlight was probably Brent along the river with Erika's butterfly net catching some bugs (I think Emily has the picture for future blackmail reference). Erika got a few bugs and we headed back to SC. Got home about 4 (so still an hour to spare for Emily). Now we will have to spend tomorrow looking for our current registration and insurance. How was your day???

Ha! Now I feel better! :-) --Gary

All you Mountain Dew drinkers (and recovering Mountain Dew drinkers -- Hi, Sean!) may be surprised to learn about its early days. Long before it was the drink of the extreme-sports generation, long before "Do the Dew," it was first marketed with a hillbilly theme. The phrase "Mountain Dew" was in fact a nickname for moonshine or homemade liquor. Slogans back then (the mid-60s) included "Ya-HOO! Mountain Dew!" and "It'll tickle yore innards!" Check out this commercial, which I remember well:

I bring this up to show another marketing switch, which I just learned about this morning. Marlboro cigarettes are the macho smokes, right? The "Marlboro Man" and all that? Well, there was a time when Marlboros were marketed toward women and young moms, as you can see from these ads. (I know it looks like a joke, but they're authentic!)

Hmmm, did you notice that when the polls as of last week showed, say, 47-45 in favor of McCain, it was "McCain in the lead!" -- and now that the numbers are 49-45 in favor of Obama (latest Quinippiac poll), it's all "the race is tightening" and "dead heat" and "within the margin of error"? I'm just sayin'.

Glad you're "enjoying" the "quotes" -- I find them really "funny" myself.

Hey, I realize I've been filling up this newsletter with type lately, but there's just so much interesting stuff happening right now. Carly Fiorina, one of McCain's top advisors and former head of Hewlitt-Packard (until she nearly destroyed the company, got fired, and walked away with a $21 million dollar parting gift) just lost another job. After being asked on television if she thought Sarah Palin had the experience to run a business, Fiorina said "No, I don't." Then, digging herself in deeper, said, "But I don't think John McCain does either." Then trying to recover: "But neither of them is running for that position." Anyway, McCain it is rumored to have exploded in rage last night about this, and Fiorina has cancelled all her upcoming TV interview slots. Bye-bye! :-)

And the Rachel Maddow fans out there (me too!) may be pleased to hear that her ratings for this past week not only beat CNN's ratings at that hour (as Keith Olbermann also does), but her numbers exceeded even Keith's! Way to go!

And finally, I leave you with this touching and beautiful painting, titled "The Prom."

Gary I have been enjoying the "unnecessary" quotations week. Thanks --

Thanks also to John -- I loved that email about the telemarketers that you sent. Too funny!

Not much going on with me -- just plugging away at school. Summer seems to be hanging on -- very nice warm days this week. She should be starting practice next week, and they will perform at all the home basketball games.

Wow, Obama just delivered a great line. Speaking in Elko, NV today (hey, I've been there!), he ridiculed McCain's assertion that he would take on the "Old Boys Network" in Washington. Obama said, "'Old Boys Network'? In the McCain campaign, that's called a staff meeting!" :-)
Gary
9/16/08
If you are a regular Keith Olbermann viewer, as I am, you may have been puzzled, as I was, by the way Keith has been saying "there's another hundred bucks" under his breath several times through each telecast -- in the middle of a story, even in the middle of a sentence. Well, mystery solved: A while ago, Keith reported that Sarah Palin as Governor cut the budget for the Special Olympics in half. Keith then said that he would henceforth donate one hundred dollars to the Special Olympics each time Sarah Palin tells a lie. :-) So far, it looks like it's costing him a couple of grand a week. What a guy!

If you happened to miss Saturday Night Live (as I did -- another bleepin' TiVo screw-up!), then you missed Tina Fey's news-making appearance as Sarah Palin. But we're in luck: Here's the whole thing! Thanks to John for finding and supplying this link.

I just heard that Tina Fey has agreed to make ten appearances on SNL over the next three months. Hmmm, that works out to approximately one appearance per week through the November election. Stay tuned! :-)

Sorry your birthday was such a dud Gary. If it makes you feel any better, my birthday always lands on "record coldest day of winter!!" Grandma Mayme Anderson told me they found me in a snowbank...kinda scary to hear that as a 4 year old. Oh my god Gary, that story cracked me up! Sounds like my luck sometimes. Definitely sounds like a Sean kind of story... and thanks for making me feel geeky, I know exactly what a system restore is! u shoulda treated urself to Green Gataeu or something along those lines!

Someone here at work suggested IHOP. Yeah, for reasons of length I left out several other bad luck things from yesterday: Before unhooking my computer, I turned on my floor lamp for some extra light -- it fizzed and smoked so I yanked out the plug. I've had that lamp since the day I moved in, and it blows up yesterday. Later, knowing I wouldn't have a computer all day, I thought I should re-charge my Palm Pilot. But I used the wrong charger; the Palm Pilot went "pop" softly, and then wouldn't turn on so it looks like it's gone too. I was actually afraid to start my car yesterday... --Gary

An early-morning thunderstorm woke me up yesterday, with loud cracks of thunder and bright-white lightning coming through the curtains. Sounded like it was right in the back yard. It passed in just a few minutes, but I decided to get out of bed and check my email. My computer had been working fine the night before, but now when it got part way through the opening sequence it flashed the dreaded BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) and crashed. Over and over. I tried various little tricks and finally got it to open, but I found I couldn't get online. I deduced one of the lightning strikes must have fried my modem. (It has happened to me before -- even with a surge protector, lightning can sometimes travel through the phone line and wreak havoc.)

I was taking the day off, but my plans did not include unhooking my computer and lugging it to the repair shop in the rain. But I did it anyway. I arrived at Best Buy at 10 am so I would be first in line. (Yes, there's a line to get into Best Buy every morning.) The tech guy plugged it in and observed the problem, and said they would run a diagnostic and could get it back to me in six or seven days. He said they had around 40 computers in the shop ahead of mine. Yikes, no thanks. So I lugged it to another repair shop, smaller and not usually so busy. This tech guy said they could get it in right away. They would first do a complete hardware diagnostic (for $50) and then could repair it either today or tomorrow.

So to cheer myself up, I decided to go somewhere and treat myself to breakfast. There was a Village Inn down the street, so I went in and ordered up an omelette and some pancakes. As I waited, I began to realize something: At that hour on a weekday, Village Inn is filled with old fat people. And I realized something else: I fit right in.... Happy birthday to me.... I finished my food and got out of there.

With no computer to entertain me at home, I figured I might as well clean the house, which I had long put off. My birthday plans also had not included scrub brushes and cleaning products but, again, I did it anyway. The tech guy had told me he would call as soon as they knew what was wrong, but I cleaned all afternoon without hearing the phone. Finally, around 4:30 I called him. "Oh yeah, it's been done for a while -- I guess we never called." Grrrr. So what's the problem, I asked. He said all the hardware, including the modem, checked out fine, so it's a software issue. He recommended I re-install Windows.

Yuck. Anyone who has ever reinstalled the operating system knows that it can be a nightmare; and even if it goes well, it takes a long time to get all your settings and preferences back the way they were. I drove back to the shop, picked it up, and on the way home had a sudden inspiration: What about System Restore? [WARNING: gonna get geeky here] System Restore is a function built into XP (and Vista) that in essence takes a snapshot of your system whenever you make a change to it. Which means if a change is made that causes problems, you can roll it back to one of these earlier snapshots before the problem and those earlier settings will be restored. So I got home, hooked it back up, and ran a System Restore from a couple of days ago. Jackpot! Whatever the problem was (and I still don't know), it was fixed by rolling my settings back to an earlier state. So by 8 pm or so, I had everything back the way it was; and I'm wondering, Why didn't I think of this before? And why hadn't one of those computer geniuses I had talked with today suggested it?

Not the way I had hoped to spend the day. All in all, some good things came out of it -- nice clean house, and computer back to normal -- but getting through it was a pain. Hmmm, maybe there's a life lesson there. Except for the Village Inn part.

Thanks to all for the birthday greetings. Those of you who sent them in this morning may have noticed that they didn't show up until the evening hours. The reason? I have had computer trouble all day, and only this evening did I succeed in getting the thing running and back online. In fact, the whole day was kind of a pain in the you-know-what. Still, it beats not having birthdays at all! If you want the whole fascinating saga, tune in tomorrow for a complete write-up.

Geez, our saga of "wildlife" continues. About two weeks ago Brent was outside cleaning up a flower bed. While he was digging the plants, he discovered a yellow jacket nest (that is what we think they are). He was stung several times. Feeling some pain he was out for revenge. So he got a gallon of gas and a match. Feeling very smug and confident he was sure that they were gone. This afternoon, he found out different. He was out happily harvesting his grapes when he stepped on "something", and sunk in the ground. He soon realized that the yellow jackets had moved to the grape vines. Poor guy came running in the house, pulling clothes off as fast as he could and headed to the shower to get them off of him. After he got out of the shower he said -- I don't feel so good, I think I need to get to the doctor. So I got in the car and took him to our urgent clinic. They gave him a steroid shot and said to take Benadryl. I did go out later and get TWO cans of wasp spray and hope that will take care of them. What a Fun Day!!

Sounds like you could make this into a Wacky Sitcom! :-) Seriously, though, hope Brent is feeling better, and that he starts wearing a beekeeper suit. --Gary

If you did miss the Republican convention and you want to be brought up to speed, may I suggest these two videos? This five-minute clip from "The Colbert Report" and especially this excellent 20-minute clip (i.e., the whole show) from "The Daily Show" together do a much better job of reporting what happened than any of the news organizations. America is in sad shape when you have to go to comedians and not the press to get the truth, but that's the country we live in right now.

A few journalists are still speaking truth, though. Keith Olbermann will have Barack Obama as his guest on Monday night's show, and following him at 8 will be the debut of Rachel Maddow's show (this is MSNBC for those who don't know).

September already, and it is beginning to feel like fall around here. Chilly nights and cool days -- I love it!! Woke up this morning and looked out the window to see three deer across the street munching on the garden. Brent was wondering what was eating some of the veggies in our garden, so now I guess we know. Amanda, you have woodchucks and grasshoppers, want to trade for our deer and bats? So glad to have Friday! Short weeks always seem longer to me. School is going well -- everyone seems to be back into the routine. Erika will finally start dance again next week.

Has anyone watched the Rep convention? I didn't see any of it -- not sure that McCain did make the right choice. Should help Obama though.... Zach and Anna -- did you two get moved into your new apartment yet?

Anyone for another installment of movie news? Here goes:
  • Those of you who viewed the "hugging lion" video that Donna sent in and was featured on our front page a while ago will be glad to know there's a movie in the works about the lion (named Christian) and his owners. More details here.
  • If I say Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis, what do you say? That's right, "Wuthering Heights." No, wait... "Ghostbusters"! They're coming back for a third time. I'm in line for this one already. The first two came out in 1984 and 1989, so this sequel is long overdue. No release date -- it's still in the script stage.
  • Paul Bettany (the invisible friend in "A Beautiful Mind") and Jennifer Connelly (the wife in "A Beautiful Mind") are married in real life, and they play a married couple -- Mr. and Mrs. Charles Darwin -- in an as-yet-untitled biographical picture about that famous scientist. Filming begins at the end of this month in England.
  • Attention "Dark Knight" fans: The third movie in this series of Batman films is in the early stages. Rumor is that Angelina Jolie will be in it, as Catwoman.
  • With the success of the "John Adams" series on HBO, a script is being prepared for a big-budget movie about George Washington. The writer, Nicholas Meyer, scripted a couple of the Star Trek movies and also the 1979 Mary Steenburgen movie "Time After Time," and he promises a very historically-accurate look at America's early years. Meyer also just finished a script on the early years of Theodore Roosevelt, which has Martin Scorsese as director and Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role.

Ah, at last a September that feels like September! (So far...) Beautiful day today. I just got back from the Lied Center, where the Chancellor gave his annual "State of the University" address, followed by a free lunch outside behind Sheldon Art Gallery for a couple thousand faculty and staff. A nice party!

A speech I didn't enjoy was the one last night by Palin. The speech (for those who didn't watch it) was about what you'd expect, except for the direct and personal insults she directed at Obama and Biden. I thought the worst was over when, at the end, she was blowin' kisses to the audience. But the most sickening part of the evening turned out to be watching the news-people get all up in a lather about how wonderful her speech was. Almost everyone called it a "home run." (By the way, can we retire that metaphor, please, along with "knocked it out of the park"? I've heard one or both of those applied around twenty times to every speech made in the past two weeks...) Anyway, the press-flunkies on CNN were scampering around like happy puppies at the end of her speech; at MSNBC, less so, but even Keith called it a "great" speech (though he later criticized it on several points). Chuck Todd more than once compared it favorably to Obama's acceptance speech (?!?), and said, "Now the Conservatives have their Obama!" Bye-bye, Chuck -- used to like you, but your mask has slipped! :-) It is almost to the point where I don't trust any news service, at all....

Back to Rove: A lot of people, myself included, thought Palin must be some Rovian trick when she was first announced. She's so divisive, so unelectable, that I wondered, "What's the catch?" But the more I look into it, the less I believe it's some devious Rovian trick. It is actually just what it looks like: McCain didn't like any of the other "logical" choices, and wanted to run with his BFF, Joe "Slimy" Lieberman. But McCain's advisors told him that Lieberman would be political suicide because his "base" couldn't stomach voting for a pro-choice former Democrat. So "Maverick" McCain obediently followed their wishes and crossed Joe off the list -- and then picked someone who would hopefully bring that base back: Sarah the God-fearin' Nazi Palin. Picking her was not some sneaky trick -- it was an act of desperation. McCain had to pick someone like her to prevent his own core -- the 22% of the country who still thinks Bush is doing a swell job -- from abandoning him. They're not reaching out for any cross-over voters -- they're just desperately trying to keep their own Party in line. The only Rovian thing about it is that since she was announced six days ago (God, it already seems like months), the whole conversation has been about her: her kids, her husband, her qualifications, etc., and not about the war in Iraq, for example, or the economy. On the issues of Iraq and the economy, the Republicans lose; on the issue of Palin, they've got maybe a fifty-fifty chance.

So they're going to try to keep the "debate" there, on Palin. She'll give a bunch of pep talks around the country, but I'll bet she won't do any press conferences with "unscripted" questions. And if she makes it to the debates with Biden (that is, if she isn't replaced or she resigns to "spend more time with her family" first), I hope someone checks her for wires! Anyway, it all may work for a while longer, but it won't work for two whole months. (Hey, exactly two months from today is election day. In 61 days this will be over. I hope!)

So what are right wing repub's thinking of the unmarried teenage pregnancy... This can't be good for them! Did McCain not think about it? No, of course not, I think he heard her name for the first time the day he announced her as his VP pick. It's amazing to see a R campaign run without Rove, as much as I despise him, he's good. He would never let something like this muck up a campaign...

As much as the average Democrat still fears Rove, I don't think he's all that. He succeeded twice with Bush, but in both those elections there was verifiable fraud at the polls in key states, and our spineless Democrats didn't put up much of a fight. (Gore didn't contest the election very effectively, and Kerry folded even faster than Gore did -- in addition to allowing himself to be smeared by the swift-boaters.) Rove didn't succeed in the 2006 elections, when the Dems attained a majority (a small one) in both houses. ...I'm up against the clock right now, but I will come back to this tomorrow! :-) --Gary

Nice picture of a woodchuck, Amanda, I also looked them up and learned all I ever need to know about them. It said they seldom traveled more than 150 feet from their burrow, and southeast Nebraska was in their habitat area, they are fairly harmless, but can cause damage in gardens etc. Aren't you glad to know that!?
