Here are the DETAILS for Gary and everybody else who wanted to know.
AURORA: We went to the Edgerton Science Museum. Edgerton was an inventor that grew
up in Aurora. He wasn't born there though. I think he was born in Grand Island but I am not
sure. There they had a bunch of cool hands-on things and also some very interesting things
to read and look at. There was a little alley type thing that showed some things he invented.
One thing he invented that is pretty popular was the STROBELIGHT. We also saw a
presentation in the classroom about STROBELIGHTS. It was a neat presentation and
everybody got to go up there and demonstrate something. There was also a room that was
hands-on. There was a big bubble thing like the children's museum has and told about it.
Everything they had set up told about it and how works or was formed. The coolest thing that
I thought was neat was a room that was mostly black and you went up by it and posed and
you could hear it count down 5..4..3..2..1..0 and then a strobe went off and you can stand back
and your shadow casted upon the wall sticked there and looked like a photo in black. It was neat. They had a
bunch of other things. We also had another demonstration in the classroom that was just a
fun WHODUNNIT thing and you had to do fingerprints and look at pictures and stuff. I
thought the EDGERTON MUEUM was neat.:):):):)
GRAND ISLAND: We went to the STUHR MUSEUM and it was about pioneer
life. We saw how they lived and we made rope and saw the houses and the smokeroom and
how they cooked and most of them had 12-13 children and they were smaller than my room
(there houses were smaller than my room). We went inside just a little bit but not for long so I
didn't see a lot of the inside but I know the outside was neat! I G2g bYE!
Thanks, Lindsey. Great write-up! --Gary

Hi Everybody!!
Today at school Erika was sent to the principal's office, because some boy tried to kiss her.
And at my school some 7th grader pulled the fire alarm, and police cars and fire trucks came
and we had to stand outside in the rain for about 15 minutes!!!

Computer Game News: I posted a message about this last week, but I accidentally erased it. (See, Amanda, you're not the only one it happens to!) Anyway, there's a game being developed right now that you Rollercoaster Tycoon fans may be interested in, called Zoo Tycoon. There are more than a hundred different kinds of animals you can have in your zoo, plus the usual other kinds of attractions. And yes, the animals can escape.... The game will be released around Christmas. It looks pretty good!
Also, the people that brought you The Sims are working on a new game called Simsville -- it's like The Sims, except it's on a village level rather than a neighborhood level. Ever wanted to follow your Sim-people when they leave the house, instead of just hanging around waiting for them? Now you can! The game won't be out til early next year, but you can follow its progress here.

The rain that has been going on every day for a week has finally
stopped. We've had over 12 inches of rain this spring. The grass is really long. Lindsey, I think Sam's (or as I call her, Pinky) hair is cute. I lived through the 60's, so I never, ever criticize anyone's hair. The girls have got 12 days of school left. Pinky got a summer job at Lake Nokomis selling ice cream. She is pretty excited. Anna is getting over a bad spell of strep throat. She had a temp of nearly 104 and was really feeling bad. Today she is up but still looks pale.

kissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was great. I have that on tape for sure...
Donna
5/21/2001
Oh man, I didn't watch X-Files last night. I haven't watched it much at all
this year. What happened? Did Mulder get killed? Is it the season finale or the show's finale?
Amanda
5/21/2001
Lindsey~ We recorded Friends, but then we recorded X-Files and it may
have gone over it. I will check today for you, OK? There is a good chance it did not. And X-Files, holy cow! I havent watched every episode lately like I used to but Ryan has kept me a little in the loop, but MAN the last 5 minutes of the season finale were GREAT!
Lindsey

Hey Amanda, I just put the Cream Cheese Ice Cream recipe you asked for in the
recipes section. I thought others might like to try it too. That is my favorite homemade ice cream. I found it years ago in Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. But the batch you and Ryan made the other night was excellent.
Amanda
5/16/2001
Pierced, and yes the ER, but a few weeks after my birthday, and that was 5 years
ago. Last year on my birthday I quit my job, and that was a good decision.....
Donna
5/16/2001
Amanda, your hair color fiasco reminds me of another of your birthdays when you
tatooed your lip. Didn't you end up in the ER or LinCare? Maybe you should just stick to
cake and ice cream from now on and save the body altering stuff to other days of the year.
Or better yet, take Tristen's advice and have FROSTING!
Amanda
5/16/2001
I got the House Party expansion pack for the Sims for my birthday yesterday. It
is pretty cool. I havent played with it too much, but enough to know it is pretty cool!
Amanda
5/16/2001
Tristen said at first that they messed up and my hair was supposed to be blonde.
But now she says she likes it. I think she is only saying that to be nice though..... Yes
Samantha, I agree, it was hot yesterday! I dont remember it getting that hot on my birthday!
Samantha
5/15/2001
Hi! Happy birthday day Amanda!!! It is so hot here and in school too it is
soo heard to think. Its about 95 way too hot and I had to walk home because I was
after school making up work. I felt like I was going to die walking home. Well gotta go bye bye my friends!!!
Gary
5/15/2001
What was Tristen's reaction to your new color, Amanda? :-)
Amanda
5/15/2001
I went and had my hair dyed last night back to my natural. How does it look you
ask? Not so good. WAY too dark. I should have taken in a picture or my brother or something
cuz the girl tried to match my roots and got it all wrong. It looks strange. It is what I
would call very dark brown. Not me... And I am mad. I didnt go to my regular place because she
couldnt get me in until late next week, guess I learned my lesson. I am going to wait until
my hair grows out and go back and make them fix it....
Amanda
5/15/2001
Thanks for the dog Donna & Gary, and thanks everyone for the birthday wishes.
Thanks too for the hint at Office Depot.. Is it like a limit 2 thing? Either way, Im totally
there....
Donna
5/15/2001
Happy Birthday Amanda! Gary, can you put a running dog at the end of this email
in honor of Amanda's birthday?
Donna
5/15/2001
I just heard that Office Depot is having a sale this week--30 blank CDs for $30
with a $30 mail in rebate. And they will give rain checks.
Lindsey
5/15/2001
I have 12 1/2 days left! Olivia has 13. That's because, I am staying home half the day today with one of my friends, because the rest of the class is walking up to Mickle, but my friend and I are going to a different middle school so we don't have to go until like 12:30!!
Samantha
5/14/2001
Hi! Man you guys are soooo lucky! You have less days then I do I have
about 4 weeks left.

5/14/2001
Hi Again.
In my last newsletter (that I sent about 10 minutes ago) I forgot to tell everyone that mom
only has 6 days left!!!!!!! Bye Again :)
Emily
5/14/2001
Hi Everybody!!!
Erika and I only have 11 1/2 days left of School!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And on the 22nd my class

Gary
5/14/2001
Hey, we need last-day-countdown reports! How many days of school left for Lindsey and Olivia, Emily and Erika, Samantha and Anna???
Lindsey
5/14/2001
Hi everybody! What's going on with you? I just got my nails done last night.
They are pretty long. I have to get used to doing stuff with them. Typing's not so bad. It's
kinda fun. But I had to get a knot out and I couldn't get it. But I think I will get used to
them. I had them before I started basketball. Well, I got some other things to do, I'll talk
to you later, bye! :)
Amanda
5/11/2001
It's a shame we didnt know about this a few weeks ago. I can't remember what
store, be it Best Buy or Circuit City, but they had a mail in rebate for 50 CDR's (which is
the best way to buy them) and after you mailed in your rebate the final cost was 1 penny (I
just realized there is no longer a cent key on keyboards). We didn't need them then, but
dang. They average about $30 now. Are you saying $90 soon????? Maybe if we would quit paying atty's and prison costs for prolonged periods of time for McVay we wouldn't be facing $2 gas gallons and $90 CDR's. Whats next? Milk & bread?
Gary
5/11/2001
Here's an FYI for all of you out there with CD burners. I just read here that blank CD-Rs (recordable CDs) are expected to more than triple in price this summer. You might want to stock up now! (How are you enjoying the Bush years so far??)
Amanda
5/9/2001
That is exactly what I had in mind. I was even thinking too that some
might not know their own profile & that would make it even funner. Sounds great to
me.......
Grandma
5/9/2001
Home again! Those days really went fast. Now it's back to weeds and eating my
own cooking. Bummer!! Anyway I really enjoyed myself at the Nelson's. Lucked out on being
there when several school things were going on, saw a really good movie (The Castaway) and
even went to the Riverboat and did a tad of gambling. Paul, Amanda and Tristen brought me
home yesterday. I'm betting Emily was glad to get her bed back. Erika and I took lots of walks and if she is like me she got to bed early last night. Back to the grindstone today!!
Amanda

Here is a Who Am I game idea for a little twist to bring back the crowd. Have
other people write things about other people. Nothing about themselves, but it has to be
something other people might not know but that that person knows for a fact. Does this make
sense?????? Like, once ________ did this! Or ________ owns this! Something like that....
Interesting! For X number of days, people could write in as many items as they want, about anybody -- for example, one person could write in: "Tristen once ate a bug, and Paul has a Garfield tattoo"; and another would write in "Samantha has 25 pairs of shoes, and Tristen's favorite singer is Roy Acuff." I would post a message if we were short on Sean items, for example, so people could send more in. Then I would compile everything: "#1 has a Garfield tattoo"; "#2 once ate a bug and their favorite singer is Roy Acuff"; etc. The fun part of this is that you might not even recognize your own profile.... :-) Is that what you had in mind, Amanda? I'm ready if y'all like it. --Gary

Here is a funny sign that we saw in Sioux City though we didnt have a camera. It
was at a fast food joint not too far from Karens house on Hamilton I think.

Lindsey-- What do you need to know about the National Guard? My mom was in it for 11 years
there in Lincoln after she got out of basic training (and for a short while in Florida) and
Ryans dad was in it for 22 years in Lincoln.... Let me know if we can help. Ryans deal is
pretty much different though because National Gaurd is a separate state thing and the Air
Force is a federal thing...
Lindsey

Hi! Amanda~ I wish I was out of school!! I have 18 days left. I get out of school
on June first. I had my last basketball practice last night. Let me tell you, in SMALL FRY,
they work you HARD!! If you don't get something right you probably have to run. But then I
have two last games. One tonight and one on Saturday. Then I start summer basketball with my
same coach. But, it is a YMCA and not SMALL FRY so I think we only have one practice a week.
We used to have them Sunday and Monday nights. N-E way, can't wait until June first although
the rest of this year is going to be pretty long. My friend and I are still working on the
National Guard for Lincoln....does anybody know any sights? The cool thing though is we got
to talk to the Colonal (kernal) and the Seargant. We get to go meet them in person I think.
Then we get to go to Grand Island and Aurora. Half of fifth grade goes to Aurora while the
other half goes to Grand Island and then they meet at Valentino's and eat and then they switch. Penny spent the night at our house for 2 nights. That was fun. Ceaser got groomed and now he is all white and fluffy. Then me and a few of my friends in class are planning a surprise party for our teacher since he is retiring. Well, my hands hurt and I gotta go to school, bye! :)
Lindsey, here's the website for the Nebraska National Guard. Hope this helps. Good luck! --Gary

Man does that phone company ever take advantage of people! WALK from Lincoln to
Hastings?! Because a really slow car with the windows down couldn't do the same???? ANYHOW, I just finished my finals week. Not much of a week, since I finished it in a day, but woohoo, I am done! Feels good. I signed up for 2 summer classes that start in July, and run 5 weeks until fall starts again, but I dont know if I will end up taking them or not. Now, I just am going to enjoy the feeling of not constantly having something I should be doing. I should get my grades in a few weeks or so I am hoping, so I will keep you informed. Ryan is on leave
until the 21st and Tristen is staying home with me while I am out of school, so we are
looking forward to doing nothing for the first time in a LONG time!
Paul
5/7/2001
My congrats to Gary for the Who's Who. By the way the walk to Hastings, no big
deal really. When I first started with L/T and T during storms we had to walk lines to
repair, and I was selected for the Lincoln to Hastings thing a couple of times.
Ryan, how was gradution? Bet it feels good to have that over with. Now enjoy your
promotion. Congrats!!!

Some of the links on the links page dont work, but I would like to still use
some of them. Any ideas?????
Websites do come and go; sometimes they change their address, sometimes they disappear altogether. If you find a link on our Links page that no longer works, let me know and I'll either track it down and fix it, or remove it. --Gary

How did I do it, you ask?? Well... nobody asked, really, but here it is anyway. First, I checked off the ones I knew for sure (based mostly on the previous "Who Am I" games and on newsletter/review entries), and there were 8 of them right there. #2 was clearly Tristen (the fire truck story), #4 was clearly Ryan (the Indian Ocean), #6 was me, #9 was Lindsey (Destiny's Child and FOOD for Survivor), #11 was Marsha ("Cinema Paradiso" and the Blue Ridge Mountains), #14 was Donna ("Much Ado" and the wanted-for-murder guy), #15 was Anna (the popcorn seed!), and #16 was Olivia (Scoob!). After that, I was pretty sure that #8 was Erika because of the broken bone. #10 I figured was Paul because of "Dances With Wolves," and also the walk to Hastings -- though I don't know that story: fill us in, Paul! #13 had to be Grandma because of Tommy Dorsey, but the two-seater plane thing nearly threw me; there's another story I hadn't heard. And #17 I figured for Amanda because of her bank connection and the one million dollars. That left me with #s 1, 3, 5, 7, and 12 between Samantha, Emily, John, Karen and Lori (and Zach and Sean, but none of these remaining profiles sounded like them so I figured they hadn't sent one in). "Sound of Music" gave me Karen for #7, "King of Hearts" and "Masters of the Far East" gave me John for #5, and the loft in New York (#12) suggested Lori rather than Sam or Emily. So with #1 and #3 between Sam and Emily, #3 sounded more like Emily (plus the elephant story rang a faint bell) and #1 had to be Sam! Ta-daa!

Castaway is still in the theater. We went to the $1.00 theater - so I'm sure it
will be on video soon.

Is Castaway on video already, or did you go to a theater? I want to see that movie!

In case any of you paid any attention, Ryan has been in ALS (Airman Leadership
School) for the last 5 weeks. It is a school that helps to better prepare Senior Airmen
before taking on the rank of Staff Sergeant. Anyhow, tomorrow, Thursday the 3rd, is his
last day. It was a close one towards the end, because Ryan does not do well public speaking
and we were afraid he wasn't going to pass the final speech. He got by with a 77% though,
so he is good to go! Tomorrow night is the graduation ceremony and then he is off work for
2 weeks! Congrats to Ryan! He will officially be a Staff Sergeant on August 1st.!

Hi from Siouxland!! Having a good time, eating too much and going lots of places every day. Just got back from lunch with Erika at school (even sat up on the stage--we were guests) and tonite is Emily's band concert. She has a really pretty school. Went to Moser's nursery this morning, Neat stuff. Had to buy a few plants but sure could have went for more. Had quite a storm here last night, hailed and a lot of rain. Today is really nice, but may have storms later. Just wanted
to check in. See you all later.
