Last day of June! And last day of this eventful month on the newsletter. If you are wondering who to thank for all the good reading here, the results are in -- and the winner is Olivia! She single-handedly wrote nearly half (39%) of this month's newsletter. So a big Thank You to Livy! :-)

Here's another way to look at it: Suppose I had a budget of $100 each month to pay the people who wrote here, each person getting a share of that hundred bucks depending on how much they wrote. This month Olivia would have been paid $39! And here's what the rest of us would have earned:

Olivia $39
Emily 16
Gary 16
Karen 9
Amanda 7
Lindsey 5
Donna 3
Ryan 2
Teghan 2
Anna less than a dollar
Paul less than a dollar
Tristen less than a dollar
Lori less than a dollar
Grandma less than a dollar
Hatgidakis less than a dollar

And to finish off Bad Jokes Week, here are two more that didn't fit:

Billy Graham was returning to Charlotte after a speaking engagement and when his plane arrived there was a limousine there to transport him to his home. As he prepared to get into the limo, he stopped and spoke to the driver.
"You know" he said, "I am 87 years old and I have never driven a limousine. Would you mind if I drove it for a while?"
The driver said, "No problem. Have at it."
Billy gets into the driver's seat and they head off down the highway. A short distance away sat a rookie State Trooper operating his first speed trap. The long black limo went by him doing 70 in a 55 mph zone. The trooper pulled out and easily caught the limo and he got out of his patrol car to begin the procedure.
The young trooper walked up to the driver's door and when the glass was rolled down, he was surprised to see who was driving.
He immediately excused himself and went back to his car and called his supervisor.
He told the supervisor, "I know we are supposed to enforce the law... but I also know that important people are given certain courtesies. I need to know what I should do because I have stopped a very important person."
The supervisor asked, "Is it the Governor?"
The young trooper said, "No, he's more important than that."
The supervisor said, "Oh, so it's the President."
The young trooper said, "No, he's even more important than that."
The supervisor finally asked, "Well then, who is it?"
The young trooper said, "I think it's Jesus, because he's got Billy Graham for a chauffeur!"
And:
Why are there no WalMarts in Iraq?
Because they're all Targets.

Hey everybody! Donna, I saw that clip on t.v., and I thought it was really cute too! I love dalmations, they are so cute!!! I didn't really think that cats could really do that either, just saying. But I had Kylie over last night, and that was really fun, we stayed up till about 3:30, it was were on the computer till about 2:30, and then we decided to go upstairs. We also watched Summerland on the big screen in the basement also. Then we snook up to my room and were playing truth or dare, then we watched some t.v., then finally fell asleep. We woke up at about 7 and played on the computer some more. We had Subway for dinner, and then had mac & cheese for breakfast. We also played with Max and Ceaser, and this morning, we would spin each other in the hammock. Yesturday, I also went to see Doctor Kimberg (my doctor, she's really nice) to check out that bump on my wrist, and she said that I had to go see another doctor that specializes in this kind of stuff, but she said that it is very common, and she has heard a lot of more worst stories, and mine was the least to be worried about. It's called ganglion cust. It's where these fluids in between my 2 bones like band together and probably wont come out on it's own. I think I might have them like numb it up with some medicine thing on a cotton ball, then like drain it out with a shot, something like that, but she said it wasn't bad at all, and that lots of people get them a lot. But when I first got there, when they weighed me, I was holding my I Love Lucy purse, and one doctor (she's not my doctor) said that I should give my purse to my dad and said it probably weighs like 3 pounds or something, and when my dad was holding it, another lady doctor said, I love your purse, where did you get it, then the other doctor took my purse and put it on a scale and said, that doesn't weigh 3 pounds, and it was 1 pound and 11 ounces, I thought that was really funny. Well I gotta go, I will talk to you all later!!!

Olivia, did you get to see the dalmation riding the bike yet? I tried to find a longer version of that clip but no luck so far. (It was on Scarborough Country last night--a dog actually riding a bike and doing a really good job of it--no tricks.) Tristen said she was able to tape it so you could watch it today. I thought it was amazing. And I have to admit, I don't think a cat could do that.

Click here to see it. Pretty cool! --Gary

Geez 2 whole days with no newsletter activity at all! Whats been keeping everyone so busy?
I have been keeping busy with work, and I am excited to get paid tomorrow! I also had Teen Court on Tuesday, which made it a rather long day. But, we did at least have some intresting cases. I was defense and both cases involved a shooting (with BB guns). I also have some things coming up with Mayor's Youth Comission. We will be presenting to the county board in a week or two. So with all of that in addition to doing my summer homeowrk for AP English, its no wonder this summer has been going by so fast!
Today the waterbed is being delivered and set up, we are waiting for them to arrive in about an hour. And Grandma Nelson is having her surgery this morning, so Laura will be staying with us for a bit. We can also pick up our dance pictures this afternoon! I will try and send them in after we get them.
So what are everyone's plans for the 4th?? I don't think we have many. I have to work, and the manager only scheduled about half of our regular staff thinking we won't be busy at all... but I'm not so sure... Hopefully it won't get too bad!
And, Gary Erika and I are so excited to see "Blades" now, we can't wait to see Napoleon ice skate!

I just found out the full title is Blades of Glory, and it's coming out on March 30, 2007. Hope this picture will tide you over til then! :-) --Gary

Entertainment news? I got if you need!
  • Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling is being quoted this morning that at least two characters will die in the seventh and final Potter book. She has long said that she had written the final chapter of the last book long ago; but today she says, "The final chapter is hidden away, although it's now changed very slightly. One character got a reprieve, but I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die." When asked if Harry is to die, she didn't answer directly (of course!), but did say she could "completely understand" why an author would kill off a character "because that means there can be no non-author-written sequels ... it will end with me, and after I'm dead and gone they won't be able to bring back the character." Hmmmm.
  • Will Ferrell and Jon Heder ("Napoleon Dynamite") are working right now on a movie called "Blades" -- about the world of figure-skating. That makes me laugh just thinking about it... :-)
  • Rolling Stone Keith Richards will be in "Pirates of the Caribbean 3" -- as Jack Sparrow's father. Wow.
  • Wanna see the trailer for Spiderman 3? Who doesn't?? Well, in a few hours you will get your chance: it's going to be available for the first time online at the Apple Trailers site, at 1:30 this afternoon. Those of you with fast connections, enjoy! (The trailer will be shown on the big screen for the first time with "Superman Returns" which opens tomorrow.)

I have had trouble with the web page this morning too. Not doing too much this week. Erika is adjusting to her braces, but still eating soft foods. Emily has been working lots, 40+ hours every week. Tonight she also has Teen Court so we have seen very little of her. Ryan, you sound so busy -- that's probably good since you are alone for awhile -- Good Luck on the tests and have a great time next week-end! We won't be doing much for the 4th -- it's a Tuesday so that makes it harder, plus Iowa doesn't allow many "legal" fireworks. I'm sure Brent and the girls will get a few things to shoot off. This Saturday is Saturday in the Park, which I think they will go to. Brent's mom is having back surgery in SC on Thursday, so his sister will be staying with us for a few days. On the plus side, it has been perfect weather here -- highs in the 70's and nice and cool in the mornings -- love to sleep with the windows open.

On the webpage trouble: I just called webhosting tech support, and directed the guy to our page; and it did the same thing for him. So they will be working on it, and hopefully fixing it soon. --Gary

Amanda sent me the link to the Sears page with Livy's bedspread, but apparently Sears doesn't like people bookmarking pages on their site. I tried it from home and it wouldn't load; tried it from my work computer, and it froze my computer -- twice. So here's how to find it: go to Sears.com, click on For the Home, then Bedding, then Kids Room, then The Dog Comforter Collection.

I am also having trouble getting on to this page today, so maybe it's just me. (I sometimes get a "page not found" error, then try it again and it works. Anybody else having trouble?)

"Hey everybody!" Livy I love it that you are so cheerful on the webpostings :) Just Fix'in to give yall an update of the Summer Semester in Teyexass. I'm almost done with finals week and feeling the strain. I just finished with my last Exam in Chemistry but still have a comprehensive final in that class. A final in Chemistry lab. A final in Humanities and I just got done taking my final in Geography. Man, I hope for this weekend to see Amanda and the girls. To total it all up I will have taken 12 exams in the 4 classes that I have. To put in perspective, I have spent the last 3 weekends doing nothing but playing catch-up from the last week. I'm happy to hear everyone is enjoying Amanda and the girls being back home. To those youngens out there, when you finally start college. Take as much as you can so your not stuck at the end rushing! Hope to hear from you all soon. "Talk to you all later!" quote Livy

Hey everybody! Ok, me and Amanda were looking online at Google and saw something there that was from Sears, and it was a bedspread that was really cool and I thought it was totally me, and something that I would not get tired of for a while, and something I would be comfortable and love waking up to. Well it's the dog, where there noses are really close to the camera, or picture, etc. They are all over the bed, and they are puppies all over, and they are really cute too! I loved it!!! But I'm going to try and get to the site thing, so I can show it to you guys, and see what you think. So I will ask like Amanda, or Gary, or somebody that I could get that done. Well I gotta go, I love Lucy is coming on. Talk to you all later!!!

Hey everybody! We had a really good breakfast this morning, we had bacon, french toast, scrambles eggs, pancakes, and some new cramberrie and grape juice. It was really good. I spent the nignt here last night, and that was fun, we watched Tommy Boy and then when that was over me and Tristen slept on the couch and watched the begining of Dancing Pet Stars, but then we fell asleep, and finnished this morning when we woke up, it was really funny. It was the top 20 countdown, and the number 1 was a Belgin Shepard, who the owner, she was Scottish, and that dance was really cute!!! He couldn't wait to get started too, he kept hopping around and was wearing a Scottish skirt, it was really cute! But I guess you kind of had to be there to watch it, if you don't really get what I mean. Well I'm going to go brush my teeth, so talk to you all later!!!

Hey everybody! Well nothing much really here, my parents went to Kansas for some comedy show, and are coming back tomorrow. They left at about 8 this morning, and so we got to say good-bye. Max and Ceaser are over here, cause me and Linz went home and got them cause Sasha was getting lonely, and Max and Ceaser were kind of getting lonely as well, so that works out really good. They needed to get to another back yard. :) Sasha loves it when they come over to play with her, so she has some company, she likes to sleep by Ceaser and likes to chase Max and play with him too. It's really cute!!! Then when me and Linz go home, we will just load up Ceaser and Max in the back and just head on home to put them to bed when we go to bed. Well I guess I will go and finnish watching the movie, we are watching Singing in the Rain, but I'm not really getting into it yet, but there was 1 dance that was really funny, with teh guy with the plastic dummy thing. I don't know, but Linz and Amanda left a little while ago to go to Best Buy and Gordman's. So they should be getting back pretty soom. Well I gotta go, I'm going to go play with Ceaser, Sasha and Max out back. Talk to you all later!!!

Sounds like farmer's market was fun today. Its been a really long time since I've been, hopefully we will get to go sometime this summer. There hasn't been anything too fun going on around here lately. Erika got her braces on Friday, and isn't loving them. She hasn't been able to eat much except some soup and jello. We tried to get a picture of her, but wasn't too happy about that, so it may be awhile before anyone gets to see them on her! But, except for Erika's orthodontist visit we had a pretty fun day on Friday. I finally had a day off of work so Mom, Dad, Erika, and I went out for lunch at Coney Island then stopped by Village Inn and picked up a delicious lemon supreme pie. Then Grandma Nelson, Marcia, and Laura were in town and since we weren't able to meet for lunch they stopped in for awhile.
What all has been going on in Mpls?? We haven't heard from Hatgidakis' for awhile...
And, Amanda how has the job/house search been going? Hope its been going good!

Hey everybody! When we went to the farmer's market this morning, the tattoo guy was finally there!!! I got 4 black pawprints going up my arm, Tristen got a purple-ish star on her ankle, and Teghan got a pink cat on her arm as well. We also saw Donna, and Steve and Kathy there too. But my chocolate covered strawberries were no where to be seen. I saw a lot more dogs, and I also got to pet a border collie and I think it was an akita that I got to pet at Nellie's Pet Snacks! They were sssooo cute!!! Well that's pretty much it that we did this morning, I will check in a little later to see what's new and what's going on, talk to you all later!!!

Hey everybody! Me and Amanda went to Linens n Things today, and we were looking at bedspreads for me, cause she also had to look at other things there, so we just went there to check stuff out, and Amanda bought some tuporware things that we can use to put leftovers in, and got rid of some others that were kind of old, and didn't have lids and weren't really useable I guess. We just kind of needed to get out of the house for a while, since Linz was still at home, Tristen was at soccer camp, and Teghan was at school, we also went to the mall, and got cookie company, and then looked at JCPenney for some more bedspreads, and we saw a couple there too. It was a fun morning. Then for lunch, we got Val's pizza, and breadsticks, it was the lunch meal, which was really good. When we went to go see Tristen at soccer camp, me and Linz both got a t-shirt, but Teghan spilled a little gadorade on the front, but It'll come out easily I bet. Well I gotta go, talk to you all later!!!!

Thanks for the review, Karen. This movie has been on my Netflix list for a while (full title is "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio"), but haven't gotten it yet. Our movie nights lately have been focusing on "I Love Lucy" re-runs. :-)

    6/23/06
It was a decent part in the book, I bet the movie felt more symbolic because of lighting, music, etc. I asked my mom about it too, because she just recently read it as well, she agrees with me, she can remember the part.

Hey everybody! Gary, I just read that heroic dog story, and I thought that it was really cool. The beagle was sssoooo cute!!!!!! Well I guess this really happened like 2 days ago, but I thought I would write it now, since I remembered right now. Well me and Amanda were moving Linz's jeep cause she was asleep on the couch, and we didn't want to wake her up, and we went around the block to park it on the side of the street, and we we're just turning, and Amanda just says, I think we ran over a snake! And I'm just like, no way, cause at first I didn't believe her, so we parked, and then we walked out to go see if we did, and well, we did! We thought we ran over its tail, cause he wasn't moving, but his tail looked squished, so that's out theory so far... But now, it's well, flat down to all of the rocks by him (the rocky road). Too bad that wasn't the one that was in Grandma's back yard, it's still out there, and me and Tristen are in the lookout! Well I gotta go!

There hasn't been anything too exciting going on around here lately either. Mostly I have just been working a lot. Tomorrow is my first day off since last Wednesday! But, I should get a pretty big check next week with overtime, since I already have over 50 hours for this week. And, it will be nice since I have already spent most of my first.
I'm not sure what I will do with my day off tomorrow, proably just sleep in for once, and get ready for the busy weekend! But, Erika will be getting her braces tomorrow morning, which she is not looking forward to.

No, the last part was totally in the book. It was a good part too.

The part where he knelt and looked down? (I'm trying not to spoil it.) I don't remember the scene as being that emotional in the book; but then, it's been a long time since I read it. --Gary

I saw Da Vinci Code last night. It was okay. I did like the way they blended the history into present day. That last scene with Tom at the museum wasn't in the book, right?

I don't think it was. If it was there, it certainly wasn't as powerful or memorable as the movie version; that was one of the few really strong scenes in the picture, I thought. I also liked the historical scenes, though interestingly those scenes seem to get the most criticism in the reviews. People thought they looked washed-out and phony; I thought they would have looked phony in vibrant color, but this way they had an eerie authenticity. --Gary

MOVIE NEWS: Matt Damon is Captain Kirk! The next "Star Trek" movie is going to be about James T. Kirk (and Spock) and their early days at Starfleet Academy. Shatner has given his blessing to Damon playing his earlier self. No title for the picture yet, and no release date, but it is happening.

Well pretty busy morning, got up and drove Amanda, Livy, and Tristen to Tristen's soccer camp and then me and Teghan drove over to her school where I dropped her off for her field trip. She was very excited for that. Then headed back over to the soccer camp and we watched Tristen for a while and then headed to Juice Stop and back to Grandma's. I actually just got up from a nap on Grandma's couch. I worked until 11 last night so didn't get to sleep until about 1/1:30 and then got up at 7 so I was pretty tired. Not doing too much today I don't think. Later I'm going to go get Max and Ceaser and bring them over for the night, Sasha needs some company! Not much else going on, kinda been boring!
    Livy
    6/20/06
Hey everybody! Donna, ya you can help, I also brought a big JCPenney booklet that has A LOT of ideas for my room, and I can show you like the ones I really got hooked on. There were about 2 or 3 that I just fell in love with!!! I think you will like them too. Also, me and Tristen were looking through it, and she saw some bedspreads that she fell in love with too, Amanda saw the one that Tristen showed her, and she thought that was really cute, it was different shades of purple, it was really cute too. Also, the other day, me, Linz, and Tristen went to go over to my grandma Megrue's because she said that there was a dog there that she found, he just walked into her front yard, and she just peted him, and she said it was a really good dog too. She didn't have a liscense, but he did have a collar and a camoflauge bandana, and Linz thought it was a shnouzer, but I thought it looked more like a wheaten terrier, and I was right!!! He was a really pretty colour too, he was like a really light tan, with a little white and a hint of grey. She said that he never barked once since she found him, and he can sit, stay, lay down, dance, and do a high five! He also loved to give you hugs and kisses. She seemed to really like him too, she would tie him up in the front yard in the shade with some water, and then we would take him in the back yard, and whenever he would go in the flowers, you would just have to say hey, come here boy, and he would come running to you! She also took him in the house when they ate lunch, and Doug brought over some dog food from their dog's food bowls. He would just follow her around everywhere around the house, and when they ate, he would just sleep in the kitchen and wait for them to be done. I thought she would have a new dog, because the last time she had a dog was when my mom was a kid. But then at about 6 or 7 last night she called and said that the owner was looking for him and was going to come over and get him and take him home. So my mom took me and Tristen over to my grandma's to say goodbye to him. We saw the owner, and she was really nice, but I didn't really lose him, because she said that we could come over to see him, or even walk him because he doesn't get enough walks anyway, so I really liked that. She said that she is also going to find the hole in the fence, and find his liscense, and we think that they must have got caught on the fence when he got out. But I was really glad about that. She also said that her husband and two daughters were really glad to see him, and that they would think they're puppy would be more likely to get out then they're other dog. Well I gotta go, I'm going to go pick up Teghan from school, talk to you all later!!!

We are keeping busy in SC. Emily has been working at least 8 hours every day. Sunday was a very busy day for her, came home pretty tired. She did get her first paycheck last week. She decided she wanted to spend it on fun stuff for herself. We tried to go to the mall on Friday night. Left home about 5:30 it was raining pretty steady. We got about half way there when it really poured and the streets were getting flooded. So we turned around and came home. We were home maybe 10 minutes and the electricity went out. It didn't come back for 2 1/2 hours! We ended up getting over 4 inches rain before the night was over. So we finally got to the mall on Sunday night. She had a blast spending her money.
Erika hasn't been having as much fun. As you may have noticed from the countdown page, she is about to get her braces on. Went to the orthodontist on Friday and got the spacers in, she will go back on this Friday and get the braces on. So I thought we would load up on ice cream and movies for the week-end. She and I just got in from doing yard work. After all that rain the grass was getting long. So I mowed and Erika chopped down the peonies.
I have the bedroom all painted and waiting for the bed. But it won't be delivered for at least another week -- still have a few pieces on back order. I certainly remember Camp-A-Way. In fact the last time we were in Lincoln Brent and I drove by that and I was surprised it was still there. Didn't Paul work there for a couple of summers and hated it??

It's gotta be the heat. Who wants to do anything when it's hot, even type? But I guess I do have one minor item to add here: I went to a baseball game last Friday night. The Educational Psychology department has a softball team (the "Ed Psychos") and I went to watch them play their latest game out at Holmes Lake. I assumed it would be kind of miserable -- out in the sun, and the temp got well into the 90s that day -- but just as the game started, the sun went behind a cloud and stayed there, a breeze came up, and the temp dropped what felt like twenty degrees. The game was fun, even though the Psychos lost 10-5, and even though we never figured out where the other team was from. Our players called them "The Others." One guy was wearing a "Camp-A-Way" t-shirt, but I don't know if that was official. (By the way, who would have thought that little business would last? It started up when I was a little kid -- I remember thinking it would be cool to work there -- and we lived on the farm just up the road from it. But when I saw their t-shirt, and thought they might have fielded a team, I realized they're still going strong. Who knew?) Anyway, bottom line: stay cool!

Tristen starts soccer camp at UNL today and Teghan takes field trip to Elephant Hall to see the museum & go to the planetarium for a show! She is rather excited to see Archie again. Other than that, nothing majorly new! Slow postings on here lately!

Hey Everybody! Well I'm just kind of just hanging around, and thought I would get onn the internet, and I also think that I am getting really close to figuring out what I want to do for my room. I really want blue, and maybe a lime green with it, but I also liked the idea of getting like a tan wall, and putting different animal prints on it, and I thought it would be cool, so I kind of want to do that too. Well I gotta go, I'm going to go watch I Love Lucy now, talk to you all later!!!

Hey everybody! Well, for quite a while now, my mom and dad said that I could makeover my room, with new carpet, either wallpaper, or paint, and like a bed spread to match it. So my mom gave me a couple of pottery barn magazines that I could look at for some ideas to do. So this morning I was looking at the back of the magazine, and saw that there was a contest, and I entered it and I know the odds are like a million to 1, but if I do win, I could win 5,000 dollars for a room makeover! I could also send the person who was going to pick the winners for this, and say my name, and adress, ya know, but I'll stick to the internet for a while. Well I gotta go, talk to you all later!!!

Had a great Birthday picnic night at Pioneers Park. I hadn't been there in years, for a picnic anyway. I was really surprised. I think the call I got from Sean at the last minute saying, are we doing anything this weekend? topped off the surprise. Thanks again to everyone.
    Amanda
    6/14/06
We pulled off a pretty good surprise for Dad's birthday. Me, Tristen, Teghan, Lindsey, Olivia, Grandma, Sean, Sasha, Caesar & Max picked up Lee's Chicken & went out to Pioneers Park & had Lori fool him into driving through there. We had the picnic all set up. He never guessed a thing.

After eating we walked up to the Indian, which looks great these days by the way. When we got to the Indian little Max felt intimidated so he barked at the Indian non stop. It was hilarious. We also went to the park & then to the Amphitheater where they were practicing for a production of Cats.

It was a great night. The pictures tell some of the story. Especially the last one where little Max is crashed out. That's how we ALL felt by the end of the evening!

Hey everybody! Pioneers Park was really fun! We took Sasha, Ceaser, and Max and they had fun too! We got Lee's Chicken for dinner and Dad really liked that. By the way it was a surprise picnic for his birthday and he was REALLY surprised! We walked up to the Indian statue with all the dogs and then played at the park for a while. Then we drove over the ampitheatre thing and walked around there for a while. We had a lot of fun and it was a perfect night out for it!

Check back later Thursday morning for some pictures from Amanda. --Gary

Hi Emily, yes please do send pictures when you get them and bring the recital tapes when you come down. You should plan on a trip soon. Ah your first pay check! Congratulations! I bet that feels good. Is there something special you've been wanting to spend it on--you know like a tank of gas? ;-)

My first official day of work went pretty well. We did a "soft opening," no major advertising or anything, so it wasn't too busy. But, it still has been pretty steady and a little hectic with everything being new. I am thinking I will like it pretty well, now that we are getting to know everything it is a lot easier. I have today off, which is nice, since my hours got changed to mornings especially. I have been going in at 7 and 8 for the past week, but tomorrow I have to be there at 6am!! So, I am not so happy about that, but at least I will get out earlier. And, I will get my first paycheck on Friday!
Work is also getting a little better now that our dance recital is over. It was getting a little tiring to be working on both. But, the recital went really well. We will get the pictures back in a few weeks and I will be sure to send them in, if anyone wants to see them. We also got a tape of it, so again if anyone is interested we will be sure to bring it along next time we are together!
Hatgidakis' how is your house search going? Will you be making a trip up to Lincoln anytime soon?
And, Amanda how is you house/job search going??
Hope they are going well for everyone!

Olivia, I haven't written back because what I have to say is very difficult for me. Based on the facts you presented--from Dog Fancy no less--I have to admit that it's possible dogs could be smarter than cats. But please don't tell Mojo. He might get mad at me.

Hey Everybody! I am so EXCITED!!! Me and Ethyl (Tristen) are both getting an "I Love Lucy" purse! We each get one, and we saw them, we both liked the other one, like we didn't argue, we just knew which one we wanted. Amanda got them off Ebay, they are coming in about 2 or 3 days. It's coming all the way from California! Only mine has a billfold that goes with it too, and Ethyl's doesn't, but we don't care, and she said that she likes her billfold a lot and doesn't really care. Well gotta go, talk to you all later!!!

Emily, how was your first official day at work? Do you think you're going to like it?
    Teghan (typed by Livy)
    6/12/06
"Hi to everybody and the teachers" (her preschool teachers). Today was Teghan's first day at preschool and she said that she really liked it and wants to go back tomorrow! So I will type up what she says about it so you all can hear about it too. "I made Moonrocks, a snack with pretzels, m&m's, nuts, marshmellows, and well that's about it. My teachers names were Ms. Ana and Ms. Kristen, they are really nice too. We have 2 frogs in our classroom, one is named Bubbles and Mr.Green Jeans" (off a t.v. show they saw I guess). (Teghan doesn't know the name of her friend that she met, but she knows about that she had a white skirt on...;) -livy) "WE GOT TO PLAY ON THE PLAYGROUND!!! Ms. Kristen read us a book about cows, 1 boy and 1 cow." Well she says that there was nothing really else that happened today and so talk to you all later!!!

Hey everybody! Well I don't really have anything to say really, I was just kind of bored and thought that I would get on and see if anybody wrote in, or if Donna is ever going to give me back an answer to my one article about cats and dogs. Amanda and Grandma say hi, and hi to Mr. Green Pants and Bubbles;) (Teghan and I will write it next...)

Gary, nice job on the three stooges picture. I'm surprised you didn't make one of them Cheney. And an interesting article for the cool site today.

That is an excellent article. Almost four years old, and even more true today. And I have to say I am proud of the Stooges picture. Of course, most of the work was done by Bush himself, when he made that stupid Stooge-like face. And as for putting Cheney in: ...D'oh! --Gary

New recipe? We got one. Thanks, Amanda!

    6/12/06
Well, Teghan went to school fine this morning. She was pretty excited once we got there, actually. She has a nice room & two nice teachers. In her room they have 2 real frogs, so she thought that was pretty cool.

And Tristen knows a lot about Forrest Gump for never seeing it!

    I wondered about that! --Gary

Hey everybody! Well we just got back from the place where we got our nails done. It was so fun, and there was this one little yellow sponge, and she would scrub the bottoms of my feet, and I was so cracking up, it tickled so bad!!! But I liked it. We all three got pedicures, Amanda got a full set of nails put on and Linz got hers filled. Me and Linz got a cute design too, I got a flower on the top of my two big toes, it's 5 small white pedals, then a long stem (going towards the bottom of my toe) and then 2 little stem thingys hanging out on the side. I got glitter in the middle, and Linz got a dimand. I loved it a lot!!! Well I gotta go, talk to you all later!!!
    Livy
    6/10/06
Hey everybody! Today me, Linz, and Amanda are going to go get a peticure, but I think Amanda is getting a manicure too. The Farmer's Market was so fun too!!! The first thing I saw were 2 little lab puppies for sale, I fell in love with both of them. I also got to pet them, and it was kind of hard to leave them. But at the end of the Farmer's Market, 2 families were looking at the puppies, and were buying them. They were just laying there in a little cage/wagon thing. Like a basket. My favorite was hard to decide on, but it would be the one with the blue ribbon, and the other one had a red ribbon on too. Amanda and Linz say that I was chasing after her to pet them, because they told me to run because she was just walking around to get people to look at them and buy them, but she didn't really go far, she just stayed by the fire trucks at the front. Well I gotta go, talk to you all later!!!

Good Bushism: "My job is to, like, think beyond the immediate."

Would be nice if he could, like, actually do that... Here's another Bushism, from 1998 and the first Bush, when asked why he didn't invade Iraq in Operation Desert Storm: "War in Iraq would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. We would have been forced to rule Iraq... Had we gone the invasion route, the U.S. could still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land." Little Georgie should have listened to his old man! --Gary

Lucky Teghan, I bet she will love preschool! Brent, Erika and I just got back from a delicious lunch. Went to an Italian resturant and had the buffet, now I am stuffed. I got the bedroom painted on Wednesday and everything put back in yesterday. Now we just have to wait for the bed to come. Haven't seen much of Emily this past week, just one more day of training, then they open for business.

    6/9/06
Well, Teghan's summer is finally off to a good start. She got her first bike yesterday! And then upgraded to the next size this morning. I got her the 12" bike, but she is almost too big for it. So, I went back & got her the 16" which she should be tooling around in by this afternoon. She is fearless, and already a great rider. And then starting Monday she starts preschool! She will go to the Montessori School for Young Children at 48th & A. I volunteered there in high school and just loved the place. This summer they are doing a 6 week program from 8:45-11:45 Mon-Fri called Explore the Earth & Beyond! I am very excited for her to start, I hope she feels the same! :)

Nice dance pictures, Lindsey. We will get our professional group and individual pictures back the end of June. I'm sure those will look much better than the ones we just sent in!
The song my group is dancing to for the recital is a hip hop mix, and Erika is doing Jail House Rock.
We are excited for the recital. We have dress rehersal tomorrow, and the recital is Saturday night. I am sure we will get a recording of it, so you can all see it next time we are in Lincoln!
I have been pretty busy this week with dance and work. My hours at work got changed. So now I am working mornings. Which I am not so much looking forward to. Today was the last day of training, tomorrow we have a "mock service" day, where we get to wait on each other, and eat all day! It should be fun. Then we have friends and family day, then opening day, which should be pretty busy, but it shouldn't be too bad!
    Gary
    6/8/06
And late last night Lindsey's dance pictures arrived.

My own dance pictures aren't quite ready yet -- they need lots of PhotoShop work....

Hey everybody! Ok. Donna, you always say that you don't believe me when I say that dogs are technically smarter then cats on a regular basis. Only because I never wrote the facts on the internet, and that I didn't have any proof to show, but now I can. I have heard it from my DogFancy magazines, and trust me I have a lot of those magazines... Anyway I also heard it from websites on the internet, and on google and stuff. In my magazine that I am reading off right now, it says:
"Comparing cats to dogs is like comparing apples to oranges. Each species' intelligence is suitable in its own world. But, dogs are mostly smarter because they are able to learn more quickly and easily with not as much stress as the cat. Cats are too independant and don't care for learning much of new things, they stick to their own likings. Dogs on the other hand help us with a lot of things, like to herd livestock, hunt certain animals such as ducks if needed or wanted to, to pull carts, and to protect and love families and friends."
Says Dr. Reid and Dr. Dodds. Now do you believe me more??? Well I gotta go, talk to you all later!!!
    Livy
    6/5/06
Hey everybody! Well nothing really much down here, but me and grandma are going to clean out either the fridge or the pantry, but they both kind of look dirty. So we are just going to organize that, and throw out old stuff, and put stuff in so it will be easy to get to. Well I gotta go eat dinner, we are having lasagne. Well I'll talk to you all later!!!
    Gary
    6/5/06
Hey, set your alarms, people! Tomorrow morning at six minutes and six seconds past six, it will be 06:06:06 06/06/06! Some believe the world will end, others are getting ready to party -- I expect to sleep through it, myself.

The mighty Steven Colbert strikes again. He gave the commencement address Saturday at Knox College (in Galesburg, IL), and it was as right-on as his Press Club remarks. Here's some of it:

And when you enter the workforce, you will find competition from those crossing our all-too-porous borders. Now I know you're all going to say, "Stephen, Stephen, immigrants built America." Yes, but here's the thing--it's built now. I think it was finished in the mid-70s sometime. At this point it's a touch-up and repair job. But thankfully Congress is acting and soon English will be the official language of America. Because if we surrender the national anthem to Spanish, the next thing you know, they'll be translating the Bible. God wrote it in English for a reason! So it could be taught in our public schools.

So we must build walls. A wall obviously across the entire southern border. That's the answer. That may not be enough--maybe a moat in front of it, or a fire-pit. Maybe a flaming moat, filled with fire-proof crocodiles. And we should probably wall off the northern border as well. Keep those Canadians with their socialized medicine and their skunky beer out. And because immigrants can swim, we'll probably want to wall off the coasts as well. And while we're at it, we need to put up a dome, in case they have catapults. And we'll punch some holes in it so we can breathe. Breathe free. It's time for illegal immigrants to go--right after they finish building those walls. Yes, yes, I agree with me.

(Complete address here. Their wesbite is slow today -- maybe a lot of people reading Colbert's address? -- so you might have to wait a few minutes for it to load.)

Looks like things will be pretty busy with us this week as well. Its the last week of dance for this year, so we have pictures, rehersals, and the big recital. But it should be a good one, I am looking forward to it! I also had my first day of work today. We are just training through Friday, then Saturday is a "friends and family day." So I get to take my friends and family in and we all get to eat for free. Its pretty much a practice day for everyone, so we will be ready for opening day on the 12th. So if anyone wants to come down for our dance recital on the 10th, we can all go out to eat at Village Inn afterwards! :)
Erika and I have also been busy swimming this weekend. We went out on Friday and got a pool for the backyard. Its one of the big ones, like I think Metcalfs got a few summers back. We've been having a lot of fun with it. And the water is finally starting to warm up, so we will be using it a lot more often now!
Mom and Dad's new "chester" was delivered on Saturday. It looks really nice, and should look even better once their new bed gets put in and the painting is finished. We'll be sure to send in pictures once it is all done!
Thats too bad you won't have time for dance anymore Lindsey, but things can get to be a bit overwhelming at times. I sure hope all of my activities won't conflict too much, when school starts up again. I would hate to have to give any of them up!
    Lindsey

Still been pretty busy between training at work, farmer's market and the children's museum, and just keeping up with Teghan! It's been fun though. I have to go into work today at 4 and go until 9. The good thing about this job is they are "forcing" me to not work Fridays and Saturdays, at least not until my first six weeks are up and I'm not complaining. It's not a big deal though because I'll start setting my hours when I want to go in. My dance recital went really well and it was alot of fun. I'm quitting because I've been doing dance for a while now and between work and starting school again, I wouldn't really have time the way they were having my dance classes every night of the week. So I thought a job was probably one of my more higher priorities right now. Max is doing good. Getting bigger all the time. He had a lot of fun when Amanda and the girls came over Friday for dinner because Teghan and Tristen can keep up with him. He was actually fading towards the end of the night and was having trouble staying awake. Not sure what's going on next week, but we'll keep you posted!

Hey everybody! The Children's Museum was really fun! Remember last time we went there, and Linz painted my face half and half, (half girl, half boy) well today Amanda painted a flower that was all over my face, then the stem was on my neck with the grass. I liked it, and Tristen was the half and half this time, and Teghan had a flower on her cheek. We did a lot of things there, and we got to meet Stef and Mike's puppy, Daisy, a beagle. She was so cute!!! Well I gotta go, well talk to you all later!!!

P.S. We also got a hammock in our backyard, we even put a cushion in there. It's in the sand pit, I fell asleep in it! :)!!!

Hi everyone! Amanda your note made me want me to be there even more. I still have one more week at Watershed, I am going to miss it. This year went by really fast. We are still getting our house ready for when we come down. I am unsure when I will be coming down, but I will asap!

Hey everybody! Tristen, Teghan, Gary, and me are at his office, he has really cool stuff in it (I'm writting this in his office on his computer right now). Later on today we are going to go to the elephant museum. I also met this really nice lady named Barbara who loves dogs as much as me! I think she said that she had a rotweiller and a westie, and she said she loved my westie purse. I also showed her a couple of pictures of Max and Ceaser that were on here. I think tomorrow Stef, Mike, Amanda, Tristen, Teghan, maybe me and Linz are going to the Children's Museum. We are also going to the Farmer's Market tomorrow moning. Well talk to you all later!!!

We're having fun! See you later! (I'm showing Livy how the newsletter works.) --Gary

We did leave Pete in Texas. For a few reasons. Mostly because he was a digger. We couldn't keep up with all the holes in the yard while we were trying to show the house to buyers. Then we didn't have anywhere for him to go once we got to Lincoln, we didn't want him at anyone's house digging up their yard. We didn't want to lose him, but the people he went to are SPOILING him. He is almost better off there I think. Our lives are going to be in such upheaval for the next 6-12 months we just didn't think we could keep up with him, nor would he get the attention he needed.

Today is my first official day of summer vacation! We didn't do much, but did go out to lunch for Mom's birthday and got a delicious ice cream cake. I only have 2 more days of a real vacation before I start working on Sunday, so hopefully that will be a nice break. We will be pretty busy with dance stuff after this weekend too. We have our regular classes, pictures on Tuesday, and the dress rehearsal and recital on Friday and Saturday. Erika and I got the last parts of our costumes lined up today. So we should be all ready, and I'm excited for it! Speaking of recitals how was yours Lindsey, why is it going to be your last?? You should send in pictures, I'm sure Erika and I will have several after ours. And, speaking of dance, has anyone been watching So You Think You Can Dance??? Erika and I have been, and we love it!! We definitely recommend it to all!! And Amanda, we heard you left Petey in Texas!!! We can't believe you aren't going to keep him! We feel sad for Petey :( I would adopt him if we weren't all allergic and already had 5 cats...

Anna, just so you know, Teghan is DYING for you to come to Lincoln. She carries around this 5x7 framed photo of you & everytime we talk about doing something she asks if you can go too.

    6/1/06
Thanks for all the birthday wishes. Thanks also to Donna for the pen, it's in my purse ready to be used, and to Hatgidakis. I loved that calendar, you did a good job Sam. Anna, the cookies were delicious, they didn't last long :) I am officially on vacation for the next three months. I was finished at school on Tuesday, Emily and Erika had their last day yesterday. Brent is also taking today off, planning to go out for lunch and he has a doctors appointment this afternoon. John, how did your thing go on Tuesday? Got a call from Nebraska Furniture Mart this morning, the dresser will be delivered Saturday morning. Now I will have to clean out the old one and make room for the new one. Hoping to get started on the painting next week. Emily will start her job on Sunday -- so I don't imagine I'll see much of her after that.
