Hey Erika, remember the year when you had four birthday parties?? How many are you having this year? :-)
Please note, everyone, that we're having another in a series of email problems here on the campus -- when it's working at all, the mail only trickles in. So Erika, it is possible some of your birthday greetings will be delayed. Sorry about that! I hope they get everything fixed soon....

Gallup recently asked 1000+ American's what they would like to tell Bush if they could have 15 minutes to speak with him. What's neat about this poll is you get to see every single verbatim response of those polled. It makes it much more personal than reading percentages. Anyway if you'd like to read the article, go to http://www.gallup.com/.

You're welcome Erika. I hope you have fun spending the money. You know, I have a 15% discount at Eyes of the World that's good through the end of May. We should get Lindsey to drive us over there and then go to Open Harvest next door and get one of their great chocolate cakes. Wouldn't that be a fun way to spend the day?
Erika

Hi Donna just wanted to thank you for my card
Anna
4/26/05
Hey everyone! Today the testing went well and thanks for the luck. It took up most of the day because a lot of kids were still testing but I got done pretty early. I am so glad that for the rest of my high school years I don't have any more writing or reading tests! Next year I only have the Math MCA and the Pre ACT's. I think Thursday I have a meet but my PT said it might be a good idea not to compete in this one. So I have to talk to my coach and see what he thinks. Today we had rain and hail but it ended kind of soon and it has been really cold here. Not to much else new here.
Emily
4/26/05
Hey there everybody! Well, good to hear everyone is feeling better! We all enjoyed our long weekend, and Dad doesn't go in all week! We went shopping, out to eat, and have just been busy getting everything ready for Erika's birthday party.
We are still dissecting the cats in Bio and we go to the cadaver lab May 16th I think it is, so I am excited about that.
We had the Teen Court attorney training last night, it went well considering we had about double the people we were expecting! Hopefully everyone there will stick with it.
Good luck on your tests Anna, we have to take a test like that at school too, they're never fun, but luckily only Freshmen and Juniors have to take them so I will have to take them next year.
Looks like you had a fun party Tristen, we had fun looking at your pictures!
Amanda
4/26/05
Tristen has been on here a couple of times and I always tell her to write in something, but she does not. I think she may have last night, but it was totally random (answering a question directed to someone else from a few weeks ago). I think maybe she gets frustrated because she wants to say a lot but doesn't want to waste the time it takes her to type. Either way, I know she was on last night because she looked at the countdown page for the days until NE for us. She has looked at that page quite often.
I have 8 days of class left, then 3 days of finals!! I am officially done with 2 of my 7 classes. I turned in my 15 page London paper 2 weeks ago, and will turn in the last 5 page paper for my self study class tomorrow. That was the class where I read three books & did a 5 page report over each. The last one I did was over William Jennings Bryan. The other two: Hillary Clinton & FDR. One class finishes up next week because we are doing finals early. One class is an internet class & all I am waiting for is the test to become available on Saturday May 7th! Basically, I am near the end and very glad about it!
Ryan just found out his class will have their 10 year reunion sometime around the 4th of July, so that is all the more incentive for him to come to NE at that time.
That is about all the news we have here, for today! :)
Gary
4/26/05
Hey, sorry for what seemed like a slow news day today on this page -- our email system was down from mid-morning til early evening. So Amanda's and Emily's notes (above) and a new recipe waited in limbo for several hours. OK now, I think!

Tristen, looks like you had a fun birthday. I'd like to hear from you what all you did and all the presents you got!

4/25/05
Hey everyone! I'm back to feeling better and going to school. It is kinda nice to be back because being at home for so long was driving me crazy. Tomorrow I take the MCA I am not sure what it stands for but I know it is just a test to see where I am at and where my school is at. It was rainy here all day and I am just doing make up work and I don't have that much! I am very happy! And Tristen I loved the pictures!
Karen
4/25/05
Tristen, I loved seeing the pictures from your party. I think you all must of had a great time! We all had the day off here. Girls and I got the day off because we didn't use any snow days. Brent is taking the whole week off. Last week his bosses said that they thought he was getting too stessed at work and were afraid he would get sick again, so they said to take a week off! Just back from a great lunch at Applebees.
Now that's a good boss! --Gary

We would love it if Hatigdakis' and Metcalfs could come too, but we know its a LONG way for you guys to drive :)

4/22/05
Hey everybody! Well Erika and I got out at noon again today and no school Monday, so that should be fun!
I like today's optical illusion better, if you just look at one spot on it and not all over then you can see that they don't move!
Anna
4/22/05
I went to Urgent Care last night. Yesterday I was having a low temp. so my Dad wanted me to go in with everything else that's been wrong. I also tested for strep but that was negative. I also got tested for mono that was also negative but the nurse said that it could show up later but I don't think it will. They think that I must just have a virus. Today I am home again, so I only went Monday and will have a lot of make up work and I missed almost a week of track. My Dad said tonight its gonna get really cold and I'm hoping it doesn't.
Lindsey
4/22/05
Well I'm home again today, still not feeling good at all. I hate that I got sick now and not in winter when you're supposed to get sick and can't go outside anyways! But I guess we'll just see how this goes from here...
Lindsey
4/21/05
I just got back from the doctor's office for the second time this week. I tested negative for strep which is good but they think I might have a possible sinus infection and I have like a stomach virus. Between Monday and today I lost like 4 pounds since I couldn't eat anything so now the doctor just told me to eat really bland foods and try to gain it back. But I'm not having a very good week, I missed dance all week except Monday and school as well. I got some of my homework so I won't be totally behind but when I go back it will be rough!
Emily
4/21/05
The optical illusion today is freaky!! I can't figure it out!
Emily
4/21/05
Geez everybody is getting sick!! Erika is feeling better today and went to school and dance and so far doesn't look like anybody else around here is getting anything so thats good!
That is kind of scary about the bomb threat. We had one at my school last year, also on the anniversary of Columbine I believe, but there were a lot of police around and metal detectors around and they had to search everybodys bags. It was kind of scary but luckily nothing came of it.
It was really chilly here today and were supposed to have some pretty bad weather tonight, thunderstorms, wind, and hail hopefully it won't be too bad. We've been having rain all week and have been in a flood watch for about 2 days.
Erika and I get out at noon tomorrow, so I will be driving us tomorrow, and we don't have school on Monday, so that should be fun. But, I do have the attorney training session for Teen Court that I have to help with on Monday too.
Feel Better Everybody!!
Anna
4/21/05
Hey everyone! I am feeling some what better. I took today off but I am going to go to school tomorrow. Lindsey that is scary about your school. My school has had things happen but not a bomb threat. My Dad is almost better but still not 100%.
Gary
4/21/05
"Allergies on the rise." Science confirms what we all suspected was true. I blame George Bush.
Lindsey
4/21/05
No I haven't been there at all this week except Monday but someone told me we had a bomb threat but I didn't know much about it. It's getting really dangerous to be there because we never know when something is going to happen! I am home again today just still not feeling good and haven't changed any.
Donna
4/21/05
Lindsey, were you at school yesterday then when they had the bomb threat? It was in the paper this morning that at around 7:40 yesterday they evacuated your school. Since it was the 6th anniversary of Columbine and the problem of someone there starting trash can fires, they decided not to take any chances and evacuate. Good decision. I was thinking you start later in the morning so hopefully you weren't there.
Anna
4/20/05
Hey it's also my day 2 of staying home sick. On Tuesday I was very tired and run down and then all last night I was up with a stomach ake and throwing up. My Dad is also sick with the same thing. So it has been a fun week for me so far. Seems like everyone is getting or has been sick. Hope everyone else feels better!
OK, you four get better; everybody else, take your vitamins! --Gary
Lindsey
4/20/05
Well this is day 2 for me staying home sick. Monday I went to the doctor because since about Friday I had been having a really bad sore throat and I've always had trouble with my throat so I went and they didn't know if anything was wrong but I stayed home yesterday really not feeling good and then I woke up this morning not feeling good again so I've been laying around trying to sleep. It's one of those things that I have had a hard time getting sleep so I'm trying to get some rest. I will bring my camera over but I may have some pictures of it here too but I will get a picture of the sign too. Anna I have trouble with my knees all the time and I have tendonitis in them and I have excercises that I'm supposed to do and knee brace things they gave me I'm supposed to wear when I'm dancing. I hate it because my knees seem to always be hurting!
Feel better too, Lindsey! And by the way, no more sports or dancing for anybody. Everybody protect those knees! --Gary
Karen
4/20/05
Stormy night and morning here, lots of thunder and lighting woke us up about 4:30. Looks like maybe the rain is letting up now. Anna, take care of that knee! Brent's niece played basketball all through high school and in her senior year she had to have surgery to fix all the damage. Erika is home sick today. Not sure if it's a bad allergy attack or a nasty cold. But either way she is miserable and on the couch watching Harry Potter movies.
Feel better, Erika! --Gary
Gary

Thanks for all the kind words for the webpage. I'm glad it's still going strong after five years.
Anna, do everything your therapist says, and take care of that knee!
Lindsey, next time you go to Grandma's, bring your camera! When I was in MPLS, Marsha reminded me we've never posted any pictures of the finished deck, so they still don't know what it looks like. And also take a picture of Livy's birthday present to Grandma. For those who haven't seen it, it's a really cool "Welcome" sign (which Livy made herself!) that Grandma thinks she will put near her garden. Thanks, Linz!
Anna
4/19/05
Hey everyone! We have had nice weather here. Yesterday it was 83 degrees. I had practice and I thought it was gonna be colder so I had black sweats and man I thought I was going to die. But today I didn't go to school because I just have felt so run down and I had a Physical Therapy Appointment. My appointment could have gone better, it looks like my knee is pretty bad and it's all genetic so I don't know what all I can do. They said it was good I stopped doing basketball or I would be in really bad shape. So from now on I have to go to PT once a week and I hope I can still do everything in track. I got some exercises to help strengthen my knee. And thanks again Gary for the Great Web Page!!!!
Emily

Happy Birthday Web Page!
It seems like we've had it a lot longer than 5 years, thanks for taking care of it Gary, we all love it!
I also heard we got a new Pope at school today, it doesn't affect me much I guess, but it has been intresting seeing everything about it on the news.
I had my committee meeting for Mayor's Youth Commission last night we had a guest speaker from the School Board and he asked to quote me for some article they are doing so that should be intresting. Then while I was driving home it started raining, and went all night! But everything is starting to bloom and green up and its really starting to look like spring out so that is nice.
Today in my Biology 2 Lab class we started dissecting the cats. We just skinned them today and we are going to be working with the muscles then go into internal anatomy so we will work on that for about 3 weeks then we will be ready work on the cadaver! I also heard when we go to the college to do that there will also be some brains for us to work on so that should be very intresting. Its hard to believe we only have about 5 weeks left of school! Seems like it just started, but I am looking forward to summer!
Lindsey

Happy Birthday, Web Page!!
What a nice way to keep a "journal of our comings and goings."
I had forgotten that Linz was on "Friends" and Erika was taming Crocs. And I wonder if Tristen ever got that tire fixed? Now, Teghan is as big as she was then, time really does fly. Today, it sort of slowed it down for me. Good job, Gary!!
My pleasure! --Gary

Happy birthday to the web page. What did we do before we had it?
Another warm day again, should to 80 before noon. We did get a nice rain last night, even some rumbles of thunder. As Emily said the water was back on late Sunday afternoon. What a pain that was -- you forget how much you depend on such things once they are gone. Amanda -- thanks for the info on the tile. I think that is the way we will be going. We have sooo many house projects to take care of. Not sure where we will begin. Probably the roof and gutters.
Erika had a band concert last week. She did a wonderful job. Think she will continue next year for the marching band. She also handed out her birthday party invitations yesterday. Five girls for a slumber party!!!

Happy Birthday to........
.....this webpage!
Yes, it was five years ago today this page went online. We didn't have a newsletter page at first (that started about four months later), and not everyone had computers or internet access then, but our official first day was April 19, 2000. That may not seem very long ago to you, but to Teghan, for example, this page has been online her whole life!
Check the photo page for one of the earliest pictures that appeared here.....

Well our water is back on but they're still doing some work at the end of the block, so hopefully it is all taken care of for us!
I think I found the face on the front page with some help! But, I am always really bad at those things, can't wait to see the next one tomorrow!
It took a whole day to get your water back on??? Wow! As for the face, here's a clue for anyone who hasn't found it: look carefully in the lower left quarter of the picture. After you see it, you won't believe anyone could not see it! --Gary
Lindsey

I found the face in the picture on the front!!!

Hey everyone! I had my competition today and we left the house about 8:30. We did really good! The scoring part is kind of confusing but for our lyrical dance we got the Ruby award and I got a Ruby pin thing, then for Jazz we got Diamond first and we placed first in our category and then with our Jazz dance we placed third (Emerald) overall and so I got a trophy and a plaque so we had a good time and I got a shirt from there because it was their diamond tour so they had their Spotlight Dance Company 10 Year thing. But I had a good time!
Erika
4/17/05
They turned the water back on for a little bit to see witch pipe broke so we filled up 2 sinks, about 5 pitures of water, the bathtub, 1 big buckett, some water bottles, and the toilet. Dad also took a shower and mom is doing laundry and the dishes. But they will turn it off again soon; I think.
Hey Erika, if you need more water, just have Emily drive you through the carwash with the windows down! :-) --Gary

4/17/05
It has been pretty quiet on here lately, none of us have had too much going on to write up.
I'm not sure what we will be doing today, we will proably go somewhere because we don't have any water!!! I got up this morning and turned on the faucet and there wasn't any water, I guess we found out that a water main or something broke and it proably going to take most of the day to fix, so hopefully that gets taken care of soon!
Thats great news about your internship Amanda, what would you be doing there?? We will proably try to come down sometime while you guys are to see everyone.
Lindsey
4/17/05
Hey everybody, I have a dance competition today in Omaha again. I have to be up there about 9:30 so we have to leave about 8:30. It's our last one for the year (I think!). My job is going good so far. I worked yesterday and I just work every Saturday and Sunday from like 2-5 except today for my dance competition. I'll get a few more hours then in the summer but it's not a too stressful job so that's nice. Well, just thought I'd add something on the page, been kind of quiet lately!
Lindsey
4/15/05
That's great Amanda! It will be a lot of fun having you guys here! Tristen I can't wait to hear about your party, it sounds so fun!
Amanda
4/15/05
Yes, Ryan will be coming, for about 10-14 days, we just don't know if it will be at the beginning of our 5 weeks or the end. That is why we don't know when we will be there, it will depend on Ryan. We should know more as the days get closer!!
Gary
4/15/05
Congrats on the internship, Amanda! See you all in 80 days! (I'm using July 4 as arrival-in-Lincoln date, until we hear otherwise; check the countdown page.)
Livy, your trip must have been lots of fun. And you made a great discovery: Now whenever you have another loose tooth, just go to Great Wolf Lodge! :-)
And now, with great pleasure, I will bring my computer saga to an end. The video card which I bought and installed yesterday did the trick. Even though my old card passed every diagnostic with flying colors, it apparently was the problem; because once I replaced it, everything was fine. Thanks for your patience, everyone, while I obsessed about it here.
Donna
4/15/05
Great news, Amanda! What a fun 6 weeks that will be. Ryan, will you be able to come down too?
Tristen, how was your birthday?
Amanda
4/15/05
Yep, we will be in Lincoln this summer. For 5 weeks!! I'm not sure the exact dates yet, but it will be July 6th-August 9th, give or take a few days on either side. Grandma said she would even knock out a wall to make room for us! Tristen was so excited she "almost cried", she is already planning it. Last night we took her to Olive Garden (it was either that or Applebee's or get this--Golden Corral, yuck) then we came home where she unwrapped presents & cards. She got the radio control Hummer she has wanted forever. I will get some pictures of her with it. It was so crazy last night I don't think we got any. Next weekend, on Saturday the 23rd, we are going to the Gymnastics Sport Center for her "friend" birthday party & then 3 girls are coming home with us for a sleepover, Kennedy, Miami & Amanda. I'm sure we will have lots to tell after that!
Livy
4/14/05
Hey Everybody! I just got back from Great Wolf Lodge for the second time! My friend Shelby invited me because it was her little sister Haley's B-day, so Haley invited a friend too. Once me and Shelby were going down the yellow slide (the one that is pich black) and I lost a tooth going through it! But it always had a big line, but I almost tipped myself over on accedent going down the green and turned backwords on the blue. But all the slides go oudside of the building! In the Arcade I won a great big wolf for 1400 tickets, and one of the machines popped out 7 or 8 tickets at a time.
Karen
4/14/05
Congratulations Amanda! So does this mean you will be in Lincoln this summer?

Karen~ about ceramic tiles. We have them in our kitchen, the old owners put them in, I guess they spent a fortune, so I am glad it was them and not me. Ours are basically white, with blue flowers (and the grout, or caulk or whatever, is blue). I love them. So much sturdier than linoleum or even wood in a kitchen. I remember when we moved into the brand new house at Offutt & as I was unpacking I dropped a knife & it stuck right into the linoleum. So right in the middle of the room was a gouge, on day one! Not with ceramic. Cleaning is fine, no different, except maybe it dries quicker. My only downfall is if you drop anything breakable, like glass or corelle dishes they shatter. I mean shatter! We are still finding pieces of glass from a year ago...
Gary

Sadly, my computer is still under the weather. After my last report, I took it back to the shop; and after a few hours, the guy called to say this time he'd found the problem. Seems one of the fans inside was wired to blow in rather than out; thus heat would build up (computers don't like heat) and it would crash when the temp reached a certain point. He said after fixing it, he'd had it running for hours with no problem. Sounds good! So I took it home, hooked it up, and turned it on: It crashed 18 minutes later. I tested it over and over with different programs, and it would always crash after fifteen minutes or so. Now, before he altered the fan it would crash around 5 minutes tops, so I suspect heat really is the culprit. But why it would run longer for him than for me is a mystery. I'm going to install a new video card in it today (that's the element most sensitive to heat) and see if that fixes it. If it does, I am going to break the old card into very tiny pieces.... Because this is slowly driving me nuts!!!
While it was in the shop yesterday, I also had the guy put in a DVD drive. (They're really cheap at the moment -- you can get a good one for $50 or less.) That part, anyway, is way cool. A lot of games now are being released on DVD format rather than CD, so I did need one to stay cutting-edge! But it's also great to watch DVD movies this way: It's like watching them on a big-screen TV. Plus now I can copy DVDs....
Anyway, fingers crossed, I should have the problem licked by tonight. I know you're all waiting breathlessly for my next lengthy report! :-)
P.S. Good luck to Agent Emily "Scully" Nelson on your sting operation!
Karen
4/14/05
Tristen, hope you are having a great birthday. What are you doing to celebrate? Erika is already planning her party. Wants another slumber party with about 4-5 friends. We have another busy day here today. Erika has her dance class and a band concert right after that. Hope to be able to make both of them. Emily and Erika got out of school early yesterday. Now that Emily a liscensed driver, we let her take the car and drive them to school and home. So that helped to not have to take off at lunch and pick them up. Then she had a training session for teen court. She said that they may be doing a sting operation soon. They send underage kids in a store to buy liquor or cigarettes. They would even be "wired." Thought she might have to 18 before she could do it, so we will see.
School is quickly coming to a close. I think I have about 30 days left -- can't wait for the summer vacation!! Gary is your computer better yet? Well time for school.....
Oops, I forgot two more things -- Lauren -- what are some of your favorite colors? (we do have your name for xmas and I always shop early). Has anyone out there ever installed (or have) ceramic tiles on their floors? We are considering putting that on our kitchen and bathroom floors. We have NO idea how to install it -- probably would have to have someone else do that for us. Just interested in how it holds up and if it's easy to maintain.

Hey everyone! I was suppose to have a meet at my school on Tuesday but it got rained out so now its on Thursday. There is another one Friday but thats the same day as the dance. The dance was suppose to be the 18th of March but that got snowed out. So I will have to miss that meet because I have to set up. I also may have to go back to Physical Therapy because my knee is getting worse at each practice. I'm in the last quarter now and I'm happy about that and also I took a Writing MBST (Minnesota Basic Standerds Test) and I passed. So no summer school for me! We have also had a lot of rain but now it looks like the week is getting better and will stay that way. Nothing else really going on just that today after practice my Mom picked me up and then my Mom, Sam and I went to eat at Chevy's. Then we went shopping and I got some clothes. Nothing else really going on here.

What are you going to do for your birthday? Remember when you were little and you said your favorite meal would be frosting? Is that what you'll have or do you think you'll pick something else? If you were here, I'd take you to the ice cream store where Lindsey works and we could get ice cream cones. Yum!

Unfortunately, Emily, my computer is still unwell! I went to pick it up yesterday and the guy at the shop assured me he'd found the problem and fixed it -- no more crashes! So I lugged it home, plugged it in, and -- you guessed it -- it crashed within 5 minutes. This is the same trouble I was having last month (see March 7), which I thought was a hard drive. So they put one in, but that didn't fix it. Then I thought my operating system was messed up, so they reinstalled it; and that didn't fix it. So then (Monday) I asked them to run a complete diagnostic on it; which they did, but incorrectly diagnosed the problem. I'm starting to think the Geeks at the Geek Squad ain't geeky enough.... So I'm taking it back in today and giving them one more chance, before I find some new geeks.

Well we haven't been having any tornados around here but it has been raining for 3 days straight!! But, I think it is supposed to let up tomorrow.
Erika and I did watch American Idol last Tuesday, and we both noticed the shirt, Erika thought it was pretty cool!
Hope you had a great birthday Grandma!!
& hope your computer is feeling better, Gary!

Some of you may have noticed I have jumped the gun by putting Grandma's birthday page up in the early evening hours of the 11th. The reason is, my computer is in the shop so I won't be able to update the page tonight from home. (Frequent CTDs -- crash to desktop -- caused hopefully by something cheap.) Happy Birthday Mom, and Get Well Soon Computer!

Hey, Erika! I was going to ask you this last week, but I forgot until now. Did you watch American Idol last Tuesday? You know how when the audience holds up signs for their favorite singer? Well, last Tuesday somebody was holding up a sign that said "Vote 4 Pedro!" :-)

It's official: Spring is here, and along with it, wild weather. It's almost 3:30 as I write this, and we're under a tornado warning -- first one of the season, I think. There's a storm system to the west of us, moving slowly north-northeast. At one time, Lincoln was in its track, so the sirens went off and we all went to the hallway for shelter. I came back to my office for my radio, and learned that the system seems to be dying down. So I stayed to type this. But it's that time of the year again!

Hey everyone! We had a fun time with Gary and it was nice to see him. My spring break is over now and I have school tomorrow. It went by way to fast. I have only one more quarter left then I have summer break. Not to much else new here.

Well, I just sent in my "Who Said That" answers, I was expecting it to be a lot easier after Gary's comments, but I think I did all right anyway. I remembered having had #20 before too, but I still couldn't remember what it was!!
Sounds like you had fun weekend in Minneapolis, Gary, its nice that you were able to see the Hatgidakis'.
We didn't do too much this weekend. Erika and I didn't have school on Friday and we get out early on Wednesday, and I have my planning meeting for the Teen Court attorney training session on Wednesday and dance too, so that will be a busy day, but we don't have much else planned.

I did the Who Said That and number 20 we've had before!
Ooops. Sorry, I put this one together in kind of a hurry. On the other hand, it is kind of appropriate that we've had #20 before.... :-) --Gary

And I'm back. Got back last night around 6. The conference went well, and I had a great time with the Hatgidakis crowd. We ate at two excellent places, both Hatgidakis family favorites: Punch's on Thursday night (great Italian food) and Dino's on Friday night (great Greek food). Thursday was "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," but in a good way: I drove to the Lincoln airport, flew to Minneapolis, took a shuttle to the hotel and checked in, then took the light-rail to the Hatgidakis neighborhood. The whole process took only a few hours, and I remember thinking that to Abe Lincoln -- or even Teddy Roosevelt -- that trip would have seemed like a miracle. My hotel room was way up high with a beautiful view of downtown, and I could even see the Hatgidakis neighborhood off in the distance (after Marsha pointed it out -- I was a little disoriented at first). Anyway, I had a really good time. Thanks to the Hatgidakis's for letting me disrupt your schedule for a few days. It was great to see everybody!

Ok, I'm off to the airport -- leaving a little early to give the security team plenty of time to go through my suitcase. Good luck with the "who said that" quiz, and I'll be back here late Saturday. G2G!

Have a good trip, Gary!
Thank you! Plane takes off at 10:55 tomorrow morning, so the webpage will be active until then. But between that time and my return Saturday night, all you'll have will be the "who said that" game to play with. By the way, I had a really interesting game set up: 20 TV theme songs for y'all to guess. But when I tried to load them on the windstream server, the song files were blocked. Seems windstream, fearing getting involved with music piracy, has forbidden any of the websites they host (like ours) to contain any mp3 (music) files. I could have converted them to a different format, like the sound files I use in the "who said that" game, but the files then would have been ten times as big -- which would have required far more than our allotted space, and would have meant a ten-times-longer download time for you, for each song.... So, at the last minute today, I junked the theme song theme, and whipped up a regular old movie-quotes version. Hope you like! --Gary

I only missed one on the Nebraska driving test! I didn't remember a lot of them though, to get my license I didn't have to take the written beacuse I had driver ed. But, I also got marked off on my driving test for not signaling before parking, I didn't know you had to!
Lindsey, your counseling TA thing sounds exactly like what I did first semester. I had to give a bunch of tours to parents too.
Congrats on the Outstanding Leader Award Amanda!!

I just tried taking the Nebraska driving test. Missed two questions, so I would pass. I'm not so sure about the driving part though. I haven't had to take the driving test since I got my license the first time. My question for you Gary is, if you realized your license had expired when you went to AZ, why did you take another month to re-new it?
Had to study! --Gary
Gary

Well, I hope I didn't scare anybody who's about to take the test. I'm sure just common-sense careful driving would get anybody through. And the test-guy was as nice as could be. But I was surprised at how many things he watched for -- a lot of which was "courteous driving" or "defensive driving" and not strictly the rules of the road. But a word of warning: The "emergency roadside stop" procedure is a part of every driving test! (It wasn't the last time I took it.) Meaning: signal your move, park, apply parking brake, turn on flashers, turn off engine; start up, turn off flashers, release brake, signal, merge with traffic. And hey, do you want to try the written test? Go here and set it for 25 questions: miss more than five and you lose! (For states other than Nebraska, try here.)
P.S. The Charles/Camilla wedding has been postponed to Saturday. Big to-do in the British press because all these high-profile guests (750 of 'em) have had to re-do their schedules. And also, the little town hall where they'd booked the civil service already had other weddings scheduled for Saturday afternoon, so the next King of England had to re-re-schedule it for early Saturday morning.

Geez Gary, makes me wonder if I would pass. I know my DL expires in 2008, so I've got some time.
Congratulations Amanda! Congratulations Tristen! Congratulations Emily!
Have you heard that the Pope's funeral is the same day as Prince Charles and Camilla's wedding? It'll be a big news day Friday.

By, the way, Emily, I am now a licensed driver too! Took the test just yesterday, and passed, thankfully.
To back up a bit, when I went to Arizona a few months ago, I had to show a photo ID to get on the plane. So I took out my drivers license, which the security officer immediately noticed was expired. Months and months ago. It was a surprise to me...! So they made me jump through several extra security hoops -- especially on the flight back from Arizona, which included removing shoes and belt, a thorough pat-down, and a long wait in a holding area while I presume they checked this website for any anti-Bush statements I may have made.
So I went to the DMV yesterday for a new license. Written went OK (missed three, one because I stupidly switched "left" for "right" in one of the questions), and I also had to take the driving test. Which was surprisingly rigorous! He gave me demerits for stopping on (he said) the stop-line instead of before it, for not swiveling my head enough to check for cars which might be exiting parking lots without stopping, and for not turning on my blinker to turn into the parking space inside the DMV parking lot! I said, "Is that the law, that you have to signal inside a parking lot??" He said, "No, it's just good to tell people your intentions." He also made me do an "emergency roadside stop" and I failed to set the parking brake. Anyway, in spite of nine demerits (you're allowed fifteen), I passed, and am now -- like Emily! -- a licensed driver.

Congratulations to Emily on your first solo drive!
Wow, milestones everywhere!
Yeah, this is the week for my trip to Minneapolis. Flying up Thursday morning and flying back Saturday night. It's a short trip, but the good news is I'll only be busy part of the day on Friday and a little on Saturday morning. The rest of the time is free, and I can take the new light rail system from the hotel to just a few blocks from the Hatgidakis house.

Amanda, congratulations!!
It is a big step to leave the kids with a babysitter, ours rarely ever stayed with one. Also a big deal for Tristen to walk home. The weather here has been very nice! Up to 80 yesterday and to be in the 70's again today. We continued our spending spree this week-end. Had to get a new dryer, the old one had been dying for about 3 months. Finally decided to bite the bullet and get one. Came home from buying it and I went down to do some laundry and it wouldn't even turn on. So the timing was perfect. Emily is now an official licensed driver!! She had her first solo drive last night to her Mayors Youth Commission meeting.
I think we may have to take out a loan to pay for the increase in the insurance -- OUCH!! Gary when do you go to Minneapolis? Isn't it this week?

Congrats to Amanda on the Outstanding Leader Award!
No major news from my sector; just watching the Pope news and remembering going to St. Peter's to see him -- now nearly three years ago (time flies!). I hear they're expecting two million visitors to Rome over the next several days. Yow! And that the funeral on Friday will certainly be the most-viewed event in television history.
Hey, Olivia, here's a news story you should read! And Lindsey, quit smoking in school! :-)

Last night Ryan & I went to the Annual Girl Scouts meeting & I received an award for Outstanding Leader. The girls stayed with a babysitter, really for the first time. We have had the neighbors watch them, but this was the first official paid babysitter. She is the daughter of another girl scout leader, her name is Lindsay and she is 15. The girls really had a good time. Tristen has been walking home from school by herself for about a week now. This is a BIG step for all of us. Yes, it is only a block, but it took us 3 years in school to get to this point. She feels pretty grown up about the whole deal. I just have about 6 weeks of the semester. Then it is smooth sailing from here, I hope!!! No word yet on any internships...

Hey everybody! Today at school there was ANOTHER fire. About 4 period (11:00) the fire alarm rang and we went outside and stood there for a while and it kept ringing so me and some people decided to go walk up the hill a little further and we sat down and almost right as we sat down a fire truck came up and they ran inside and then about 10 minutes later another fire truck came and then they had to check the rest of the school. But we were outside about 30 minutes. Then they found out that it was down in one of the gyms and somebody set one of the volleyball nets on fire. At lunch we went down to the concourse and it still smelled a little smoky. That was the 3rd or 4th time we've had to go outside but that has been about the 6 or 7th fire since February. People keep starting them in trash cans in the hallways or just anywhere and they haven't caught them yet but they called some people to the office but they haven't found anyone. It's getting really dangerous though because there were classes down by the gym and they said they saw the fire as they were running outside. So hopefully they'll stop soon. We've missed almost 2 classes with all these fires. But anyways today I also gave a tour of our school. I'm a TA (teacher assistant) for the counseling office and there was a new student who may be starting soon and her and her mom were here today so one of the counseler's asked if I would show them the school so I also did that today. Not much other news here. I started my job a couple weeks ago and that's going good. Already have 9 1/2 hours under my belt! Learning how to do everything and it's coming together. Alright well not much other news here!

I had lunch at M's in the Old Market today. The food was so good I'm still thinking about it. I had grilled falafel on a pita and a cup of soup. The soup had a creamy balsamic vinegar base with minced prosciutto ham and artichokes. That was one of the best soups I have ever eaten.
Someone else at the table had a Lahvosh--an Armenian thin pizza with havarti cheese on top. That was really good too. It was a really nice--tiny restaurant.

Hey everyone! I am on spring break and it feels so nice to just to do nothing. Yesterday Sam and I and a couple of my friends went to the mall and saw Guess Who. I thought it was funny and liked it but I dont know about Sam. We had a good time. Then today I got up at about 9 and just hung out and at 3:30 I have practice. So not to much new here.

Gary, how come the words are backwards (11:10 A.M. on Sunday?)
Everyone, I lost one of my teeth today and there is all ready another growing in. I like to stick my toungh through the whole, I can eat a lot better now!
I had the words all backwards on the front page for April Fools Day, Livy, and I haven't changed the page yet. (I think you're the only one who noticed!) Check back tomorrow -- everything should be normal then. :-) --Gary

Too bad about the White House internship. I think it's possible Grandma's trip to Hawaii may not happen either. I will say, though, that Brent's job offer in "Preston, Idaho" had me going for a few minutes! :-) But I did get got really good yesterday: There's a website I've mentioned here before which is following the progress of Peter Jackson's "King Kong" and every few days they post a behind-the-scenes "video diary" to show the latest info on the movie. Well, yesterday they had a major announcement: at the conclusion of filming, they were going to go right into making a Kong 2 and Kong 3, back-to-back! The video was full of details (which in retrospect are totally silly), and I bought it completely. I was all set to report it on this page! As I was writing it, I thought, "Gee, it's kind of bad timing though; by announcing it on April Fool's Day, a lot of people will think it's...... oh...my...god..." :-) The video is still up, if you want to watch it yourself: click on the "9 Mb" one for the quickest-loading version, though it will still take several minutes with dial-up.
Happy April Fool's, everyone!

Hey everyone! Happy April Fool's Day!
I am finally on my spring break. I have all of next week off. I am so happy. I only have practice on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. So that makes me happy that I don't have it all week. Then I have first "real" meet at my school after spring break. Not to much else is going on here, Sam is still laying around, and the weather is nice so we have the windows open.

Wow. Good news cropping up all over! Makes me kind of humble to tell mine (which has been brewing for some time). Marylen and I are planning a trip to Hawaii (not my first choice) but she has family there that wants company, so I decided why not? Only a few days to get ready, and will be gone 3 weeks.
