Yaay, a new Who Am I! Why don't you give us a few teaser questions for us to
think about til Friday? Will Teghan be playing?
OK, here are two questions:
"I'll bet I'm the only one in the family who...."
"Something I really need is...."

Hey Olivia. . . .I think the answer to your riddle is : Because
he sniffs out the clues? Just a guess.
I think Emily should have the Oscar also for half a year. No offense Marsha.
I am also ready for the new "Who Am I" even though I never am very good at
it though.
Well, I guess that's all for now, Bye!
Amanda
3/27/2002
Woohoo! A new Who Am I? We are ready!

3/27/2002
Congratulations Marsha and Emily! I was thinking that instead of sharing the Oscar with me, why not let Emily have it for the other half of the year?
Emily, you did such a great job of picking the winners I think you deserve to see Oscar sitting on your shelf for awhile. What do you think?
Donna
3/27/2002
Olivia, I wish I could go to zoo camp with you. It sounds like so much fun. Please tell me the answer to the Scooby Doo riddle. I have no idea what it could be. I wonder if Caeser knows.

Hi! At zoo camp I held a snake, a turtle, a ferret, and I colored, watched a movie. It
was about animals but it did not say anything. Just sounds with the music. I had a lot of fun. Me and my friend Claire, we tried to make a sky scraper. I am going all week. I saw bones from a cow and a tarantula. I saw a lot of animals with their bones. They are cool! I think me and my friend Claire will go to zoo and nature camps. It was fun at nature camp and it is fun at zoo camp. I only have 3 more days left. Claire had a lot of fun also at zoo and nature camp too. On Thursday night I am going to spend the night at Claire's so my Mom won't have to take me to Claire's grandma's because her grandma drives us there to zoo camp. Ususally my Mom takes me to her Grandma's (Claire's) and then she takes us to zoo camp because she lives close by there. I like her Grandma. Claire does too. I get a lot of free choice time there at zoo camp. There is not a time out at zoo camp. I miss Ceaser when I am there all day like school almost. I got to go now, probably to zoo camp! Hahaha! Buh-Bye!

Happy Anniversary, Paul and Lori!! Congratulations to Marsha and
Emily! Amanda was really neck and neck all the way! The snowstorm was sort
of a surprise, almost 8 inches of the heavy stuff again. It is melting fast
tho'. Teghan is getting so big already, was "talking" to us Sunday night
between naps. Linz was here yesterday, has this week off from school, I have
a snowman in the front yard thanx to her.
Marsha
3/25/2002
What an honor to win the Oscar this year! Thank goodness Emily picked a few
different ones - she was really scaring me with her awesome picks - great job Emily!! I will
gladly share Oscar with Donna, I'll have him for six months and Donna should have him for six
months. You guys topped off the night with quite a snow storm. This is the coldest March on
record, we had much more spring weather in Jan. and Feb. GREAT pics too! Loved them all.
Tristen, your Easter artwork is beautiful. Is it still there or did the snow cover it all up? Liked
most of the Oscar show, but Whoopi just isn't so funny. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson had the
funniest skit.
Donna
3/25/2002
I would rather be Lauri. She's my favorite. I unfortunately went in to work today. I
can't believe so many schools closed today. They even shut down the university. It's not that bad out. I really wanted to stay home today, but if I had I would be painting. I thought I would have an easier day at work.
Amanda
3/25/2002
Apparently I am Laurie on Trading Spaces, is that good or bad???
Gary
3/25/2002
The torch has been passed! Not only did Marsha win the statue, but Donna has gone into the lead with highest average of total correct picks. Over the past five Oscar races, 53% of her picks have been right! Congratulations to you both! If you haven't read it yet, check out this year's oscar results. Also, there are two new pictures on the photo page (thanks, Amanda!).
Amanda
3/25/2002
We made it home OK with the snow. Yes, we braved it. It took us about
an hour and a half. Didn't go over 35, but never had a problem. Not many cars at
midnight, so that was a plus. The trip would have seemed MUCH more worth it, had
I had Oscar with me. SO CLOSE! I almost got out of the house with Oscar, since
when we were leaving, I found him tossed on the floor behind a chair! He got quite a
work out through, with T-Met & L-And practicing their speeches after they beat out
people like J Lo & Backstreet Boys. We had a lot of fun, sorry Teghan slept most the
time. And Ryan will sleep well, GORGED with corned beef.
Oh, and congrats Marsha... Job well done. And, Emily, nice job. I will get
it one of these years. I'm waiting for our Academy (Gary) to fork out the cash for a
REAL Oscar... Oh, and Whoopi sucked.
Donna
3/24/2002
Thanks everybody. And thanks Gary for the cool sites today. BTW, I'm
Genevieve. :-) I'm having a great day and will soon be taking Oscar home again.
Well, I hope so anyway. I'm in 3 Oscar competitions. I hope I win at least one of
them.

Happy Birthdays to Donna and Anna!!
I like the calendar thing on the countdown page -- cool!
Things are beginning to return to normal around here. We all went back to
work and school yesterday. Going to Wausa this morning to help Brent's mom
with a few things. The funeral was Wednesday, had a very nice service.
Getting lots of cards and flowers - got a plant from the Mayor's office, and
flowers from my school yesterday - so that is nice. Erika gets to taste her
first alcohol in church tomorrow - first communion class.

Yes, Teghan has been quite enjoyable, but, Sunday will be the first big

The votes are in! Here is a complete list of how we voted for this year's Oscars. Don't bother printing this page out -- I have already mailed copies of this list to you (all nicely formatted on one sheet of paper), so watch your mailbox!
Later: Dang, I just noticed I left off a category on the lists I put in the mail. So if you use the lists you get in the mail, you'll have to add the "Best Animated Feature" to it. (It is on the complete list page.) Basically, if "Monsters, Inc." wins, then Karen and Samantha each get a point; if "Shrek" wins, everybody else gets a point; and if "Jimmy Neutron" wins, nobody gets a point! :-)

Hi to everyone on this first day of SPRING! I, for one am glad it is here even if it may be only in theory. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our newest teenager, Anna, hope it is a good one (your dinner sounds so good). Hopefully the Nelsons and the Metcalfs can relax and look forward to
better days.
The Oscars, as you know, are this Sunday so if any and all want to congregate here for supper and viewing that night you will be most welcome. Corned Beef and Cabbage is on the menu. I realize school is the next day and babies like their own bed so you won't offend me if you opt out. But hope to see you all, if possible. Now enjoy this Spring day before it goes back into the teens for tomorrow.
Paul and Lori
3/19/2002
Our condolences to the Nelsons and Metcalfs.
Lindsey
3/19/2002
I'm also sorry to hear about your aunt. Pretty depressing time alright. Hope it will stop soon!
Donna
3/19/2002
Ryan, I'm sorry to hear about your aunt.
And the cool site today was sad. What's up with that? Emily and Sam, this would be a good career for you, teaching sign language to gorillas. You're both so good at signing.
Amanda
3/18/2002
Our thoughts are with the Nelsons. What a sad time. Today we were at a
funeral ourselves in Beatrice. Ryan's aunt passed away last Wednesday evening and
the funeral was today. Ryan's uncle passed away just last July and Ryan presented
the flag to his aunt Joan in full service dress uniform so they asked him to be in
uniform again for her and was also a pall bearer. We have gone to 3 funerals down
there for the Metcalfs in the last year and a half. Getting a little depressing.
Lindsey

Give my sympathy to Brent's Mother. I feel very badly for the whole family.
Grandma
3/18/2002
I want to extend sympathy to the Nelson's. It has been a long uphill battle.
Karen
3/17/2002
Brent's Dad passed away this afternoon. He was at home with all of the family with him. Emily, Erika and I went up this afternoon. We will go back tomorrow and help to make the funeral arrangements. Looks like the funeral will be on Wednesday.
Amanda

Happy Saint Patricks Day! (Can I get a shamrock??)
Marsha
3/15/2002
We sure had a fine snow storm, blowing with not much visibility for about 24 hours and wound up with about 12 inches of snow. We woke up to a beautiful sunny day. St. Paul closed their schools, but Minneapolis didn't. What a gyp!! Anna said her school was full, but Sam's high school was empty and she came home around noon. Very pretty day with the blue and white. Paul's out west trip sounds really cool - I'd like to do a drive like that some day, but not with the kids, they just don't appreciate scenery like that so much.
Karen
3/15/2002
We didn't get any snow. We did get a lot of rain yesterday and just a little bit of ice, but not cold enough for snow.
Gary
3/15/2002
Yesterday the weather channel said the Minnesota storm would last through this evening (over 24 hours); but the webcam shows a beautiful blue sky and traffic moving at a good clip on the road, so it looks like the storm is over after barely 12 or so. Too bad -- I hope you got to stay home anyway!
Grandma
3/15/2002
Hi, Winter is still in control!! However nary a flake here. Windy and chilly tho'. Hope you Minnesotans aren't snowed in to long, but a 3-day weekend is always welcome. Hope you had been to the grocery store, Marsha. Didn't hear how much the Nelson's got. I did hear there was 2 FEET in parts of northern Neb. You could have got snowed in pretty fast where you were, Paul. Wish I would have been with you to see some of the old territory. If you went west out of Page and crossed the Elkhorn you saw some of the prettiest country. Lynch is pretty rural yet, I think. Lots of ranches and windmills. Carol and I went almost there, we were in Orchard and Royal (really tiny) and on out to Gordon.
Hope you all are enjoying the day. I may have to uncover flower beds later today. Bet you and
Clair will have fun at Zoo camp, Livy.
Paul
3/14/2002
Thought you Minnesotans and Iowans might get some snow, I was in
Moms old stompin grounds Wednesday (Lynch, Paige, O'Neil and Johnstown) and it
was snowing a little then. Beautiful country up there. Linz and Livy have a week off
school next week. Linz is going to hang out and see what happens, Livy is going to
Zoo camp with friend Claire.
Hope your feeling better Teghan... Hiiiii Tristen.
Hello everybody.
Ceaser
3/14/2002
Sash, I know what you mean about the ironing board thing! I hate to see
it come too!! I have to iron one more shirt I swear......
Thanks for visiting, come over again.
Marsha
3/14/2002
Snow finally hit us...kids may get a snow day on Friday, we got about 8
inches today and it is supposed to keep up all night. John called everyone from the
MSAC to cancel for tomorrow. Can barely see across the street. It was a good day to
be home.
Karen
3/14/2002
It looks like Sioux City will miss most of the snow. It was
predicted for us to get up to a foot of snow too, but the temperature
stayed warm enough that it should be mostly rain and some snow mixed,
maybe 2-4 inches. So we should all be in school tomorrow!
Gary
3/14/2002
I hope you Minnesotans are getting your snow day. I heard up to a foot (or more!) predicted this morning -- supposed to start snowing for real a little after noon and snow for more than a day. (I see on the webcam it's already coming down...) And Sioux City might get some too. Stay warm and enjoy it!
Marsha
3/13/2002
Hi All, We did see the Ground Zero special on the 11th. I
thought it was very well done, although a few breaks to come up for air
would have been appreciated. The story coming from the 2 photographers
point of view was an interesting way to observe the ordeal. How is Teghan
coming along with her colic? Poor girl! That is no fun for parents or
child. Our sidewalks have been sheer ice due to last weekend's stormy
weather, dangerous just to get to our car. Tomorrow we are supposed to get
8 to 12 inches of snow...we haven't had a snow day in years, so we are
kind of hoping it comes.
Grandma
3/12/2002
Hi, I purposely did not watch the return to "Ground Zero." It
was to soon for me and the news guys haven't let us forget for a minute
anyway. I did see the memorial lights on a news story and thought it was a
good tribute. Glad Ryan is home and sorry to hear Teghan has colic. In the
days of yore we had to search for the right nipple so they didn't suck in
so much air when they ate. I also was not above letting them suck on a
peppermint stick. Sometimes it worked sometimes not. Anyway she is
growing so fast, she will soon outgrow it. Maybe not before you lose your
sanity, but soon. Hello to everybody!!
Gary
3/12/2002
I watched just a bit of it, and then tuned out -- looked too sad! The ceremony last night at Ground Zero had a nice touch: in case you didn't see it, they formed a bunch of searchlights into two squares, then pointed the lights straight up into the night sky causing the beams to re-create the two towers in light. I understand they're going to do that every night for the next month.
On another topic, I am informed that Anna has a new email address: It is am0389@juno.com. Try it out! :-) I have made the change on our contact page, but if you have it saved on your own computer or written down somewhere, don't forget to change it.
Amanda
3/12/2002
Did anyone watch the CBS special by the brothers who taped the 9/11 thing? Any comments?
Sasha
3/12/2002
I don't mind the vaccuum myself, but I go crazy when they get out the ironing board!
Amanda
3/10/2002
Well, Ryan is home. He got home Friday night at about 7 or so. He might
be leaving again real soon, we will see. I also took Teghan to the doctor and they
think she has colic. This is something we did not have to deal with with Tristen, so it
has been an experience. Hopefully, she is like most kids and grows out of it at 3 or 4
months old. She has her good days and her bad, but she seems to be better since we
came home. The doctor said babies like routine & especially colicky ones. There isn't
a whole lot we can do for her. We are trying little things, like switching her formula
(but she doesn't have a milk allergy, just switched to a different brand that is
supposed to help), we are trying a different type of bottle (because if you have ever
heard her eat, she is noisy, so I think she is losing suction). Tristen had swimming
lessons again, and pretty much hated them, this time it went worse than the last time.
Anyhow, just thought I'd post a hello from Offutt.....!!
Gary
3/10/2002
Hey, somebody sent in an Oscar ballot yesterday afternoon -- but forgot to put their name on it! So if you have made your Oscar choices and are NOT Emily, Erika, Karen, Lindsey, Grandma, Gary, Paul, Amanda or John, please let me know! (Or just vote again.)
Gary
3/8/2002
No such luck here! Forecast says we may get some drizzle this afternoon, turning into snow later -- maybe 1 or 2 inches at most. If that! As usual, when it comes to snow this season, I'll believe it when I see it! :-)
Karen
3/8/2002
Yahoo, we finally got a snow day!!! Actually it's now a two hour late start, but that will mean no preschool for me!! We had a steady drizzle most of the day yesterday, about 5 it got cold enough to freeze. May get snow before it's all over.
Gary

Here's the latest "Lord of the Rings" news: The much-anticipated preview of the next film in the series ("The Two Towers") will be shown with LOTR starting March 29. So if you haven't seen LOTR yet, or want to see it again (like me!), just wait about three weeks to get a bit more for your money. The Two Towers preview -- according to some lucky spies who have seen it already -- will include scenes of Frodo, Sam and Gollum in Mordor; the Battle of Helm's Deep; Gollum finding the Ring in the river; Gandalf and the Balrog falling into the depths of Moria; and Treebeard.
Also, thanks to John for today's cool site.

How many of the Oscar movies & nominees are available for rent, anyone know?? I would like to rent some before I submit my winning ballot. Then again I never have any other year & I still do great!
Out of the whole list, the only pictures on tape right now are Moulin Rouge (eight nominations including best picture), Bridget Jones's Diary (best actress), Memento (screenplay and editing), Ghost World (screenplay), A.I. (visual effects and original score), Pearl Harbor (visual effects), and Shrek (best animated feature and best screenplay). --Gary

John booked rooms for April 20th at the Hotel Fort Des Moines - suite for
the Nelsons, suite for the Hatgidakis', room for Mom and Donna, room for Gary and a
room for the Metcalfs. Suites are $84.50 and rooms are $64.50 plus tax. Check in is at 3 and check out is noon. Cancellation (if needed) is by 6 pm, date of arrival. Hope for some good weather. Check out the hotel on the webpage - it's a nice looking hotel! Thanks Brent and Karen for the recommendation.

That's interesting. I also searched on google and found the Anderson webpage! That's really weird that this is on there.

Amanda

Well, the military did it again. Ryan left this morning for an undislosed
location for a questionable length of time. I'm planning on the full 30 days so now I
am really glad we got the digital camera, imagine how much Teghan will change
before then. I will be SO glad if Ryan gets his orders to be a tech school instructor
down in Wichita Falls, TX. Of course we don't want to leave here, but if he got the
job it would be all days, M-F, no nights, no weekends, and no TDY's! It is also a 4
year controlled tour, meaning they can't move him elsewhere for 4 years. He turned in
his application last Monday and we should hear by the end of this week or next. This
is something he has wanted to do for a long time, just took a lot to talk me into
moving back down to Texas, but I finally agreed that having him home is worth it. We
will keep you posted, since if he does get the job we will be leaving in late May or
early June.
Karen
3/1/2002
The week-end of the 21st in April should work for all us. Any hotel is OK
with us too, but I will make a suggestion. We stayed at the Hotel Fort Des Moines a
few times. It's a great old hotel right downtown. Not sure what the $$ is, but it is in Des Moines so can't be that high.
We are just starting to get snow now, may be up 7 inches before it's over. Emily gets the braces on her bottom teeth this afternoon. Erika's class is celebrating Dr Suess's birthday today, she was excited because she got to eat Green Eggs and Ham for
lunch. Yesterday Brent's Dad was moved from the hospital to a nursing home in
Wausa. Everyone is hopeful he will return home within a week.
Amanda
3/1/2002
Hey all. Here is a picture of Teghan on her 2 month birthday! We celebrated by taking her to her 2 month check up! She weighed in at 10 1/2 pounds & was 22 1/2 inches long. Her weight and length were both in the 50th percentile, which is great. Her head circumference, though, was in the 80th percentile, and Tristen told the doctor that she too had a big head, it was holding her big brains because she was so smart so her sister was too. She also got her first set of vaccinations and did pretty good, cried like it hurt pretty bad, but was an angel the rest of the day!
Gary
3/1/2002
---Never too preoccupied for the Oscars! Actually, there was a time in planning the Rome trip that it looked like we might go at the end of March; and I have to admit one of my first thoughts was that I would miss the Oscars.... :-)
---Yeah, pretty cool that a collection of songs from the '30s wins album of the year!
---Des Moines the weekend of 20-21st sounds fine to me, if it works for others. And if we're looking for activities, here are a couple: the Botanical Center (which I have been to!) is really nice; and the Living History Farm looks interesting.
