AMAZING FACT: The first Olympic games were held in Olympia, Greece in approximately 750 BC, and were held every four years for the next twelve centuries. Then in 393 AD, the Roman Emperor Theodosius banned all pagan festivals, which included the Olympics. The games were resumed fifteen centuries later in 1893, in Greece.
